Asus gibt seinem potenten U36JC (13,3 Zoll) einen dicken Akku mit, der mehr als acht Stunden durchhält. Unter Last legt der Lüfter extrem laut los. Etikettenschwindel: Laut Werbeaufkleber ist im Asus U36JC eine DirectX-11-GPU eingebaut - der GeForce 310M kann aber nur DirectX 10.1

Many laptops claim to be super-slim and light, but Asus claims its U36Jc is the slimmest and lightest with a standard voltage processor. Asus bundles a good selection of its own software with the U36Jc, including WebStorage, e-Driver, and LifeFrame. For $969 the Asus U36Jc represents very respectable ultraportable performance with five hours of moderate-use battery life in a well-designed package.

In about ten seconds, I was able to open up a browser window and start surfing. The interface is utilitarian at best - the windows, fonts and display anomalies will take you back to your days working on Windows 98. If all you need is a quick inbox check, Express Gate may be useful, though most people now will just use their smartphones.

As you could see in the review above, there are many aspects to like about the Asus U36J portable laptop. However, I do feel that buying one right now would be hasty. And here’s why: with Intel’s new SandyBridge platforms popping out, the hardware inside this one is outdated. Asus will for sure launch an updated version of this laptop soon, with that new hardware. It might be more expensive, but not by much, and it will manage to fix both performance and battery life issues, which are right now the aspects dragging down the Asus U36J. But don’t get me wrong, the U36J has the potential to be an amazing portable laptop. Just wait a bit for Asus to put some new hardware inside, what’s got right now feels so like 2010.

The ASUS U36JC-A1 offers a large amount of performance in a high quality magnesium alloy case that gives it a very professional look and feel. With above average battery life, dedicated graphics and a USB 3.0 port, it certainly has a good deal to offer those looking for a compact laptop. The downside is the fact that there are more compact laptops out there for a similar price or similarly sized models that also feature optical drives.

It's no lie, we're fans of thin 13-inch laptops; so much so, we feel like they're nearly the perfect size for the average portable computer. Unfortunately, the 13-inch landscape is a bit of a minefield for the average consumer: some options have underpowered processors, others lack optical drives. The thin, powerful Asus U36JC-A1 packs a lot of computer under its slim 13-inch hood, but some might want to wait for next-gen Intel processors to sweeten the deal.

The ASUS U36Jc provides a strong mix of style, performance, and portability that users on the go will find appealing. However, its warm temperatures, stiff keyboard, and mediocre sound quality prevent us from giving it a higher rating. If you're looking for a less expensive ultraportable with lower performance requirements, you should consider the HP Pavilion dm1z or Toshiba Satellite T235. If you want something lighter and more stylish with a great keyboard, the 3-pound IdeaPad U260 may be up your alley--though you'll be sacrificing battery life and graphics oomph. However, those looking for a consumer ultraportable with plenty of power should put the U36Jc high on their list.

Kommentar

Serie: Auffallend oft wird der Display schlecht bewertet bzw. beschrieben. Als zu dunkel und besonders spiegelnd wird er charakterisiert. PC Advisor spricht von "display anomalies", geht aber nur bzgl. Spiegelungen auf diese Beurteilung ein. Besonders positiv werden bei der U36 Serie meist die Mobilitäts-Eigenschaften hervorgehoben: die Kombination aus dünner Bauweise, geringem Gewicht und langer Akkulaufzeit. Ein spezieller Einsatzzweck dieser Modelle wären also Züge, Busse oder öffentliche Gebäude, häufige Wechsel zwischen mehreren Zimmern, nicht jedoch helle Gärten.

NVIDIA GeForce 310M: Die GeForce 310M ist die Nachfolgerkarte der G 210M und technisch nur durch 30MHz mehr Shadertakt verschieden. Es gibt jedoch auch Versionen mit einem geringeren Kerntakt von 606 MHz.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.
