ASUS producing a gaming smartphone is one of the more esoteric news stories at the Computex 2018 trade show this year. To fire a shot right across the bow of Razer, ASUS is putting its ROG credentials on display: a speed-binned Snapdragon 845 running at a higher frequency than the standard S845 smartphones, a higher-than-standard 90 Hz refresh rate display with 1ms response time and 108% DCI-P3 gamut, programmable ultrasonic AirTrigger sensors, force feedback, and additional docks for purchase. One of the key elements is that ASUS built this phone with an 11mm thickness, well beyond the 7-8mm we see on flagship smartphones today. They have put that additional volume to incredible use for extra battery, more haptics, bigger speakers, more connectivity, and it's a showcase of what we could see if other smartphone manufacturers offered a bit extra z-height.

Modell: Das Asus ROG Phone ist ein für Gaming gemachtes Smartphone. ROG ist eine berühmte Untermarke von Asus und steht für Republic of Gamers. Es handelt sich um eine Abteilung von Asus, die sich auf Gaming, E-Sport und Modding von PCs konzentriert. Diese Firma hat viele Gaming-Laptops hergestellt, die mit ihren Lüfteröffnungen, LED-Beleuchtungen und von Spieleumgebungen und Waffen inspirierten Gerätedesigns cool aussehen. Es wurde Zeit, dass Asus diese Merkmale bei Gaming-Smartphones verwendet. Das Phone ist zum Gewinnen gemacht. Seine unübertroffene, schnelle 2,96 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform und Adreno 630 GPU liefern nicht nur für Gaming, sondern auch zum Ausführen vieler Apps ausgezeichnete Leistung. Der Snapdragon 845 im ROG Phone ist etwas übertaktet. Daher könnte das Phone wärmer als andere Geräte mit gleichem Prozessor werden. Zum Bekämpfen der Abwärme sorgt das einzigartige GameCool Vapor-Chamber-Kühlsystem mit entfernbaren AeroActive Cooler  in der Hitze des Gefechts für zusätzliche Kühlleistung und stabil hohe Frameraten. Dank robustem, präzisionsgefertigtem 2.5D- und 3D-gerundeten Corning Gorilla Glas mit diamantgeschnittenen Highlights und kupferfarbenen Details kombiniert das wasserfeste, metall-gerahmte ROG-Phone eine kampferprobte Bauweise mit sehr angenehmer Griffigkeit beim Gaming.

Ebenso gehört der Bildschirm zu den besten, die derzeit am Markt erhältlich sind. Er verfügt über ein 6 Zoll großes OLED-Panel ohne Notch mit einem Seitenverhältnis von 18:9 und einer Full-HD+-Auflösung. Als Gaming-Smartphone bietet es eine Bildwiederholfrequenz von 90 Hz, die höher ist als bei normalen Smartphones sowie eine Reaktionszeit von 1 ms. Dank großem 108,6 % DCI-P3 (sRGB 145%) Farbraum sind die Farben zudem unglaublich lebendig. Damit sehen die Spielewelten so herrlich wie beabsichtigt aus. Um die Gaming-Erfahrung weiter zu verbessern, bietet das ROG-Phone DTS:X Ultra 1.0, das mit einem immersiven 7.1-Kanal-Surround-Sound und verbessertem Bass für unglaublich realistisches 3D-Audio-Rendering bei allen Arten von Spielen oder Virtual sowie Augmented Reality (VR/AR) sorgt. An der Rückseite des Smartphones befinden sich eine Kamera mit einem primären 12-MP-Sensor und einem sekundären 8-MP-Weitwinkelsensor. Obwohl die Kamera nicht zu den attraktivsten Features eines Gaming-Smartphones gehört, nimmt sie Bilder in guter Qualität und dank Weitwinkel-Kamera Bilder mit weiteren Winkeln auf. Das Phone nutzt einen großen 4.000-mAh-Akku und unterstützt Qualcomms Quick Charge 4 Technologie und USB-PD Fast-Charging. Es ist wichtig, dass der Akku schnell geladen werden kann, denn Gaming braucht mehr Energie. Asus stellt auch andere Gaming-Merkmale wie einen eingebauten vernickelten Kühler, ein Paar kapazitiver AirTrigger und zwei USB-C-Ports zur Verfügung.
