Viele User dürften mit dem ASUS N81VP ihre eierlegende Wollmilchsau gefunden haben. Das Notebook ist extrem schnell, bis auf die Sache mit der Tastatur – bei der es sich wahrscheinlich um einen Modellfehler handelt – gut verarbeitet, im normalen Betrieb äußerst leise und es bietet gute Multimedia-Funktionen; hier sind besonders die guten Lautsprecher zu hervorzuheben. Auch die Akku-Laufzeit dürfte für die meisten Nutzer ausreichend sein.

Das ASUS N81VP ist ein 15- bzw. 16-Zoll Einstiegs-Spiele-Notebook im Gewandt eines 14 Zöllers. Dabei muss man allerdings sagen, dass der Größenunterschied zu einem 15 Zoll Notebook doch gering ausfällt. Das N81VP ist eher ein kompakter 15 Zöller, als ein Subnotebook. Bei der Performance braucht es sich nicht vor 15- oder 16-Zoll Notebooks verstecken.

  The problem with multimedia laptops is that you always feel as if you have to trade off something to get something else. If you want a big screen and speakers, then you'll need to lug around a heavy computer. If you want a lighter laptop that still packs a multimedia punch, you'll have to give up screen size or even major components. For years laptop manufacturers have been looking for that holy grail—a solution that can provide a full-featured multimedia experience in a lightweight package. ASUS may not have found it with its ASUS N81Vp-C1 ($1,299 list), but it's gotten pretty darn close. The ASUS N81Vp-C1 is a quality multimedia laptop, but if you are planning to watch a lot of video on it you might want something with a larger screen.

No other 14-inch thin-and-light is as powerful as the ASUS N81Vp-C1. Prospective buyers looking for a relatively inexpensive and portable machine that will allow them to perform many, if not all, of the same graphics-intensive tasks as desktop replacement systems would do well to consider this system. While its 16:9 display isn’t as high-resolution as larger systems, this $1,299 notebook can be easily output to a much larger display in a home office. The N81Vp-C1’s battery life is mediocre, but if you want strong GPU muscle in a travel-friendly design, this notebook is a very good choice.

The ASUS N81Vp is hands-down the fastest 14” notebook we have reviewed and easily holds its own against other larger notebooks. Even though it is technically targeted towards multimedia users I think it would be a perfect mobile gaming rig. Build quality is great, with most of the chassis’s strength coming from the fact that so much stuff is crammed into a small space there is no open cavity to flex. Battery life is one aspect that is well below average, but we don’t hold it against ASUS since the Intel T9550 and ATI 4650 are far from energy efficient. The price is great for the features you get, but if you can live with a larger laptop you can get a full-size gaming rig for the same amount.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650: Die Mobility HD 4650 ist die Nachfolgekarte der HD 3650. Sie kann zwischen 450-550 MHz schnell getaktet werden (Speicher 600-800 MHz) und verbraucht demnach 15-25W (Chip alleine). Je nach Verwendung von DDR2, DDR3, GDDR3 unterschiedlich schnell. Dank Avivo HD kann die GPU auch HD Video dekodieren.

Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.
