Offiziell kostet das neue Einsteiger-Netbook EeePC 1001P von Asus 259 Euro. Doch teilweise ist es bereits noch billiger zu bekommen. Dafür gibt's nicht etwa veraltete Technologie, sondern das Neueste, was Intel für Netbooks zu bieten hat. Der EeePC 1001P ist ein vollwertiges Netbook mit aktuellen Intel-Komponenten. Zwar ist die Festplattenkapazität nicht allzu üppig und das Betriebssystem nicht auf dem neuesten Stand. Ein mehr als fairer Preis sind die 259 Euro aber dennoch. Denn Asus liefert dafür ein hochwertiges Netbook ... das lange Akku-Laufzeiten und ein blendfreies Display zu bieten hat.

Wer auf der Suche nach einem soliden und vor allem preiswerten Netbook ist, liegt beim Asus EeePC 1001P nicht falsch. Die hohen Ansprüche von Vielschreibern wird die Tastatur mit der leichten Feder-Schwäche zwar nicht erfüllen, dafür überzeugt uns die Display-Qualität und die Akkulaufzeit. In Anbetracht an den Verkaufspreis von 250 Euro erhalten wir ein Gerät für den Durchschnitts-Nutzer.

Der Asus Eee PC 1001P ist das Basismodell der Pine Trail Netbooks von Asus. Es hat kein Bluetooth-Modul und nur eine 160 GB Festplatte, aber es zeigt uns, was die neue Netbook Plattform drauf hat. Eine 11 stündige Akkulaufzeit bei maximalen Stromspareinstellungen und eine 6 stündige beim Surfen über WLAN. Asus erkauft sich diese Laufzeit jedoch mit einem künstlich gering beleuchteten Display. There are good reasons the Asus Eee PC 1001P is cheaper than the Eee PC 1005PE. The battery life isn’t as good and it doesn’t have 802.11n WiFi. But honestly. That’s about it. If those features don’t matter to you, the Eee PC 1001P is a very good netbook for the money. And if you prefer matte displays over glossy, then the decision between these two models is almost a no brainer.

With the 1005PE selling for as little as $365 through some online retailers, increasing your budget would result in a more capable road-warrior netbook.

The Asus Eee 1001P is an interesting product in that it seems to undermine the bread and butter of the Eee lineup—the 1005PE. The 1001P uses the same 1005 chassis, has identical hardware specs, a matte textured case that doesn't pick up fingerprints, and a better non-reflective display, all while costing significantly less. The only thing the 1001P gives up is a few hours of battery life. So what's the point of the 1005P?

A slick design, roomy keyboard, and long battery life make this netbook an excellent value. In some respects, we like the $329 ASUS Eee PC 1001P better than the longer-lasting 1005PE-P, which costs $50 more. Not only does the 1001P pleasingly avoid fingerprints, but the keyboard feels larger, too. The $399 Toshiba mini NB305 may still be our favorite netbook overall, but if you can live with a smaller hard drive and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, you're getting a great bargain.

As you can see from the pros and cons above, the 1001P is a mix-up of good and not so good parts. It’s solid built, offering all the basic stuff. Thus, it would be perfect for a kid, an older person or if you need a portable device for harsher conditions. The matte textured body also helps, as provides better grip and is less prone to damage over time. Thus, the Asus 1001P offers decent performances, reliability and autonomy, all for a very good price: only $299.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Integrierte (shared memory) Grafikkarte welche im Prozessor Intel Atom N4xx integriert ist. Basiert laut Intel auf einen "optimierten" X3100 Kern, ist jedoch nur minimal schneller als der alte GMA 950. Daher für HD Videos und 3D Spiele nicht geeignet.

3D Spiele sind auf diesen Vertretern nur in Ausnahmen spielbar, grundsätzlich sind die Grafiklösungen hierfür jedoch nicht geeignet. Office Programme und Internet surfen dürfte jedoch ohne Problem möglich sein.

Intel Atom: Die Intel Atom Serie besteht aus 64-Bit Mikroprozessoren für günstige und stromsparende Notebooks, MIDs oder UMPC. Besonderheit der Architektur, ist das die Befehle nicht wie derzeit üblich (z. B. Intel Core Architekture oder AMD Turion) "out of Order"  sondern  "in  Order"  ausgeführt  werden. Dadurch verliert man zwar einiges an Performance, jedoch spart dies Transistoren und daher Kosten und dadurch auch etwas Strom.

N450: Intel Atom CPU für Netbooks mit integriertem DDR2 Speichercontroller und GMA 3150 Grafik. Die Leistung ist nur etwas besser eine Kombination aus N270 / GMA950, jedoch ist der gesamte Stromverbrauch deutlich besser.
