Wie die meisten 7-Zoll-Tablets bietet das Archos 70 nur 800x480 Bildpunkte - viele Internetseiten sind damit nicht in voller Breite zu sehen. Auf den Google Android Market hat das Tablet keinen Zugriff, für Zusatzprogramme stellt Archos die Apps-Lib mit rund 10000 Programmen bereit.

While there are no plans from Archos to enable Android OS upgrades, if you want a tablet primarily to watch video, listen to music, read e-Books and keep on top of your e-mail and social networks, then the Archos 70 is probably all the tablet you will ever need. It’s small, light, has a decent battery life and, after a quick trip to Archos Fans, will do most of the things a tablet costing twice the price will do. Hunt around and you can find one for around £195.

Getting the best out of the Archos 70 requires a tweak or two to both the device and how you use it. You won't need to resort to such measures if you're willing to splash out £599 on an HTC Flyer or £329 on a first-gen iPad, but for its sub-£200 price, the Archos 70 makes for a worthy budget option.

Amazon is currently selling the Archos 70b for $179 and, at this price, it seems tempting. However, there are a number of flaws that keep us from recommending this device. The most glaring deficiencies are the maddeningly sluggish accelerometer, mediocre screen and short battery life. At this price, your money is better spent on either the Kindle Fire or the Nook Tablet, which are both available for just a few dollars more. Or wait for the rumored Asus Nexus tablet, which promises to pack Nvidia's quad-core Tegra 3 chip for $199.

The diminuitive Archos 70b internet tablet is a mixed bag. We appreciated the look and feel of the device, as well as the Android Honeycomb operating system and battery life. But we just couldn’t stop ourselves being slightly underwhelmed by the performance – not to mention the troubles we experience with high definition video. Still, the inclusion of the Android Market means there’s no shortage of apps to install and this adds value to the tablet. Given the size and the price of the Archos 70b it could be an attractive purchase for anyone regularly travelling or on a budget. However, due to its shortcomings performance-wise, we’d suggest this as a secondary device rather than a first choice machine.

Archos: Der französische Hersteller Archos S.A. wurde 1988 gegründet. Zunächst wurden Produkte wie zB MP3-Player produziert, ab 2009 auch Laptops, Smartphones und Tablets. 

Die Weltmarktanteile sind begrenzt, es gibt aber etliche Testberichte zu Archos-Smartphones und Tablets. Die Bewertungen waren in den Anfangsjahren unterdurchschnittlich wurden aber bis 2016 besser.

3D Spiele sind auf diesen Vertretern nur in Ausnahmen spielbar, grundsätzlich sind die Grafiklösungen hierfür jedoch nicht geeignet. Office Programme und Internet surfen dürfte jedoch ohne Problem möglich sein.
