Dem iPhone 15 mag manche technische Innovation der Pro-Modelle fehlen: fünffach-Tele, A17-Pro-CPU, 120-Hertz-Display oder Titan-Rahmen. Doch unterm Strich verkauft Apple hier für weniger Geld Technik, die im Vorjahr nur im Pro-Modell zu finden war: An Bord sind etwa der A16-Prozessor und eine stärkere Hauptkamera. Und die Kamera bietet ebenfalls viele Möglichkeiten inklusive 48-Megapixel-Modus, ist selbst bei wenig Licht genauso gut wie die Pro-Modelle und bei kleinen Zoom-Stufen durchaus brauchbar. Wichtiger aber ist der Wechsel auf die vielseitige und mit anderen Geräten kompatible USB-Schnittstelle, die offenbar via Adapter sogar den Anschluss von TV und Monitor ermöglicht (Näheres wird der Praxis-Test zeigen). Damit ist klar, für das iPhone beginnt eine neue Zeitrechnung: die der Anschluss-Kompatibilität mit dem Rest der Welt.

If you are looking for an alternative option you can check the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra which comes with better specs and 4 years of software updates.

For those with older phones from five or so years ago, the iPhone 15 marks a giant leap forward with a fast chip, long battery life, a crisp and bright display and the more useful USB-C port. The trickle-down effect from the iPhone Pro models also adds a bit of interest. The dynamic island from the 14 Pro certainly improves on the older notch design. The 48MP main camera captures more detail and the automatic portrait mode is a bit of a gamechanger. But the same regular iPhone caveats apply from previous years. No extended zoom is disappointing, no always-on display or high refresh rate for the screen is a miss and the body colour options are a bit too washed out and pale. None of these things are deal killers, but are features found on competitors of this price. The iPhone 15 is a good phone. It’s just not as exciting as it should be for the price. For that in an iPhone you need the 15 Pro, or switch and look at Android competitors.

Even though Apple has officially discontinued last year's Pro models, it's still ridiculously priced in India.

To conclude, I think it's important to look at the bigger picture of why this phone exists. This is not Apple's flagship, but the company doesn't really make mid-rangers either. There's never been an iPhone made of cheap materials, lack luster displays or mediocre cameras to meet a certain price point. That's why it's hard to sit here and argue with the $799 price tag, cause anyone price minded can pick from any of the older iPhones or even the SE. I could sit here and draw all the comparisons you want against Android in spec for price, but the reality is a lot of people, especially the younger demographic, doesn't care. It's a free market where anyone can pick what they want, and yet what I see on the streets most is iPhones, regardless of how much better the internals are on a OnePlus 11 for $100 less. Not really sure what it is that Apple does to drive that level of loyalty, but if anything I'd say that's what Android OEMs should copy.

In summary, Apple suggests that for a better display and the Always-on feature, you'll need to pay $200 more for the Pro version.

Just like its sister models iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, the iPhone 15 proved to be an extremely reliable camera in our testing, producing bright and vivid images when viewed on HDR screens. It particularly excelled in terms of exposure and color, in both photo and video modes. This is the first time Apple has used a Quad-Bayer image sensor in non-Pro iPhone models and, like on last year’s iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models, on the iPhone 15 it helped enhance image quality and allowed for seamless 2x tele zooming. I don’t expect there to be many console-level games on iPhone for at least two to three more years, and even that’s being generous. Therefore, I think early adopting the A17 Pro chip isn’t worth it right now. At the end of the day, there’s a lot to love about the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. As far as I’m concerned, it’s last year’s iPhone 14 Pro with a nicer body. Even as a photographer, I barely use ProRaw, so living without it hasn’t been an enormous change. On the contrary, Automatic Portrait mode excites me more than ProRAW ever. For years, I’ve leaned towards the Pro iPhones, and this year’s video features are tempting, but now more than ever, I think most people who end up with an iPhone 15 will live the Pro iPhone experience without even knowing it.

I’ve always felt that the “regular” iPhones have more attractive finishes and it’s true for this year too. The iPhone 15 will come in five finishes and they are: Blue, Pink, Yellow, Green, and Black. My picks would be Blue and Pink because they look the most punchy and vivid. Like the Pro iPhones, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus have contoured edges that make the phone easier and more comfortable to hold. They feel less squared off and less sharp at the edges. In terms of size, they feel about the same. Screen sizes are unchanged so the iPhone 15 still has a 6.1-inch display while the iPhone 15 Plus has a larger 6.7-inch display.

The iPhone 14 wasn't all that exciting when it launched in 2022, but there's already more to be said for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, and that's before we've used them properly in the real world. First impressions suggest that if you don't opt for the iPhone 15 Pro Max this year, the standard iPhone models could definitely be the ones to buy.

There's still an iPhone 15 vs. iPhone 15 Pro divide, but the additions to the standard model make it feel less stark. And I’d be saving at least a couple hundred dollars with the iPhone 15 instead of the Pro. Dynamic Island, the upgraded camera sensor and a fast A16 Bionic chip may have been on the iPhone 14 Pro first, but that doesn't make them any less welcome on the iPhone 15 now. Throw in the telephoto capabilities and USB-C connectivity, and you have a winning flagship at a more attractive price.

This statement is more valid if you own an iPhone 12 or older, but there are also meaningful improvements like the much better main camera and the Dynamic Island (if that is something you care about) that the iPhone 15 has to offer.

Apple A16 GPU 5-Core: Von Apple selbst designte Grafikkarte im Apple A16 Bionic SoC und laut Apple mit fünf Kernen und um 50% mehr Speicherbandbreite als die GPU im A15. 

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert.
