The iPhone 13 Pro and its bigger brother are the best phones you can buy right now. This smaller Pro model is better suited for people who balk at larger phones. The battery life has vastly improved over past iPhone models, which is a serious point in this device’s favor. And Apple has proven its prowess with cameras, with the iPhone 13 Pro producing some beautiful photos and videos. I have two gripes with this phone, though. I’d like to see faster charging, but more importantly, I really wanted to see Touch ID this year. Despite the annoyance of unlocking the iPhone 13 Pro manually, and a second time to use Apple Pay, though, the iPhone 13 Pro has basically everything else going for it. As of August, 2022, the end of the iPhone 13 Pro's life is in sight. The next Pro iPhone is likely to arrive in September, and that's presumably going to be called the iPhone 14 Pro. Rumors for this and the regular iPhone 14 have been appearing regularly in the past few months, so you may be tempted to wait and see which are true, rather than buy the iPhone 13 Pro.

The iPhone 14 Pro rumors have been flowing steadily for some time already, and point to a phone with some notable upgrades (although here are the seven we really want to see). Not that this detracts from the iPhone 13 Pro's quality though, as it's still one of the best phones to buy right now.

The reason Apple offers four versions of its iPhone 13 is to appeal to a wider audience. For some, the standard iPhone 13 will be more than enough phone, while for those that want only the very best, there's the iPhone 13 Pro Max. I even believe (despite relatively lower sales) the iPhone 13 mini is a valid choice for lots of users. The iPhone 13 Pro though is, I believe, the perfect balance. It has all the power, performance and features of the Pro Max, in a body that is far more hand-friendly. You also save $100/£100 by going for this slightly smaller option, and unless your primary use is to watch movies on it, you won't miss the bigger screen size, or the extra battery. I suspect we will see larger differences again between the iPhone models that are expected to be released later this year. But for the iPhone 13 range, this is my favorite phone.

At the end of the day, I was quite disappointed with the iPhone 13 Mini. It just didn’t have the updates that I wanted to see, and that’s quite disappointing because I’m a huge fan of the form factor. The iPhone 13 Pro also didn’t feel like a generational update compared to the iPhone 12 Pro. And that means at the end of the day, the iPhone we would recommend getting is the regular iPhone 13. It’s the phone I switched to after I gave up on the iPhone 13 Mini’s battery life.

Even though it launched in 2021 and is now many months into its life cycle, the iPhone 13 Pro remains the modern iPhone to buy, due to it being technically identical to the bigger iPhone 13 Pro Max, but in a more manageable package for a lower price. The same positives we listed at launch still apply. The 120Hz ProMotion screen is a standout feature, the battery returns two days of use on a single charge, iOS 15 has been continually updated and improved, and the camera is capable and feature-packed. Most of all, the iPhone 13 Pro is hugely reliable. Whether streaming music, watching video, taking photos, sharing documents with MacOS, printing through a wireless printer, using Bluetooth headphones, sending messages, using Zoom, or practically any smartphone-related task you can think of, the iPhone 13 Pro will easily and effortlessly handle them all. Add in that it’s beautifully made, is compatible with the best smartwatch you can buy, has a massive third-party ecosystem of accessories, and retains a lot of value when the time comes to upgrade, and the iPhone 13 Pro is one of the wisest

For all its follies, the iPhone 13 Pro makes up for them with a user experience that, as the most popular phone series in the world, sets a high benchmark for all smartphones. The fluidity achieved by the pairing of hardware and software is as good as anything else in the market, but it one-ups much of the competition by maintaining that silky smooth user experience over time. The timeless design, incredible display, and reliable cameras round off the package and make it an easy recommendation if you want to take a walk on the Apple side. Apple’s insistence on sticking to “features” like the Lightning connector and slow charging are speed breakers, sure, but they don’t take away from the fact that the iPhone 13 Pro remains one of the best phones you can buy, even six months down the line. Moreover, this is a phone that will last you, and last you well for many years to come. Buying into Apple’s ecosystem requires buying into some conformity, but the iPhone 13 Pro shows that conformity has its merits.

Ultimately it feels like Apple's 2021 iPhones are all about refining rather than offering anything brand new. That's not going to be exciting for those eager to get new toys and tech, but the iPhone 13 Pro is as a refined an Apple phone as you can buy - so if you're in the market for an upgrade from an older generation then it'll still feel genuinely impressive.

Fundamentally, Apple has decided to go with deeper and more lustrous shades of green, and you may or may not like it. Colours are subjective, after all. Personally, I would like to see them attempt a more electrifying and brighter shade of green like Lamborgini's Verde Ithaca. Prices of the phones are unchanged. So you are looking at a starting price of S$1,799 and S$1,649 for the iPhone 13 Pro Max and 13 Pro respectively, and S$1,299 and S$1,149 for the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini respectively. The phones are available for pre-order now on the Apple Online Store and will be available from 18 March. Alternatively, you can also consider getting it via Amazon. If you're using a HSBC card on Amazon where a minimum purchase of S$650 or S$1,000 is made, you're also eligible to receive a S$50 or S$75 Amazon.sg gift card respectively. This offer is applicable until 25th March 2022 (or when fully redeemed, whichever is earlier).

The iPhone 13 Pro is this year's best iPhone. The 6.1in display is the most comfortable size for most users, and the combination of the 120Hz refresh rate and camera improvements across the board makes this worth the extra cost over the base iPhone 13. By Android standards, the comparison is trickier. On pure performance, the 13 Pro holds its own against any phone out there, and for video recording it's unmatched. The best phones from Samsung, Xiaomi, and Vivo currently have Apple beat on stills photography, but these days there's not much in it, and this remains an exceptional camera to find in a phone. By adopting 120Hz and fixing the battery life, Apple has finally closed ground on its two biggest recent weak points and charging speeds now remain the biggest gap between top iPhones and the competition - though I suspect many will find Apple's offering perfectly sufficient. Ultimately, it's iOS 15 and Apple's design language that will tempt people to the iPhone 13 Pro as much as anything else.

The only thing that I can’t fully agree with on the iPhone 13 Pro is its price. But with that said, Android OEMs are now offering flagships that are even pricier than what Apple asks for. While I reviewed the 1TB variant, which is an eye-watering RM7199, I do believe you won’t really need this much storage unless you want to shoot ProRes video all day, which can quickly take up a lot of space, and be a nightmare to transfer off the device with the USB 2.0 speeds of the Lightning connection. But if you consider some of the lower capacities like the 128GB or 256GB options, it can be quite a good deal. I personally would go for the 128GB capacity, which is also a pretty steep RM4899. But for that price, you are paying for the most consistent smartphone experience money can buy. The software, the camera and just the overall experience, can be boiled down to just one word: consistency. Or two. Predictability. The peace of mind that you can take a picture off the cuff and not have to double check to see if the image turned out right.

The Apple iPhone 13 Pro arrived on the market along with the rest of the iPhone 13 line in September 2021. Apart from a smaller screen, the 13 Pro otherwise shares the same features as the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and put in a similar performance in our Display protocol tests. This short review will focus on the almost negligible differences between the two models. For all other attributes, the two iPhone 13 models performed identically; and in fact, the only reason the 13 Pro comes in just behind the 13 Pro Max is that the 13 Pro has a smaller screen-to-body ratio.

Despite being a stellar piece of technology, the iPhone 13 Pro is not the most forward-looking phone that you can buy right now. That crown this year is reserved for the foldables from Samsung -- two phones that are high on innovation but are still not recommended because of their shortcomings. However, that does not mean it's still not the phone for the here and now. In fact, as a sum of all its moving parts, the iPhone 13 Pro is arguably the best smartphone in the market right now. It offers great cameras, powerful performance, a brilliant display, and a big battery. These combined make the iPhone 13 Pro a brilliant buy. The only catch here is, is it affordable? Starting at Rs 1,19,900, the iPhone 13 Pro does not come cheap. In fact, this price point makes it much more expensive than pretty much all premium segment phones in the market right now. This honestly makes it difficult to recommend as there are multiple phones in the market right now which offer slightly lesser overall value but are available at a much affordable price point.

So, to answer the first question, should an iPhone 12 Pro user upgrade to the iPhone 13 Pro or just wait for the next generation? Personally, I think I'm happy enough with the predecessor, so I wouldn't recommend upgrading. But make no mistake, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max are Apple's best flagships yet, and I can't think of one bad thing about it. Of course, the price tag is often the hot topic among tech enthusiasts, especially Malaysians. At a starting price of RM4899, the iPhone 13 Pro (128GB) is more expensive than most Android flagships. If you want the 1TB model, it would cost more at RM7199. But the high-end price tag probably doesn't matter to most Apple users, as proven from the pre-order units being sold out during the pre-order period in Malaysia. In terms of competition, some Android flagships can challenge the iPhone 13 Pro. If you have a lower budget, consider the Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G (starts from RM4299) or the Sony Xperia 5 III (RM4599), which has a good camera system. Of course, it really depends if you're into the iOS ecosystem or not, so the choice is yours.

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max mark the third year in a row that Apple released two Pro models. The phones have the same price as last year's 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, and are loaded with updated cameras, a larger battery and an A15 Bionic chip. By packing the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max with features many of us have wanted for years, including a display with a high refresh rate, Apple further defined the difference between its Pro and non-Pro phones. Three years ago, by comparison, the word Pro seemed more of a marketing term than an indication that the phone was any more professional than a regular iPhone. The 13 Pro is an important signal that there isn't just one iPhone that works for everyone. Unlike last year, both phones now have the same camera array and only vary in terms of size, battery life and price. The iPhone 13 Pro starts at $999 (£949, AU$1,699) and the 13 Pro Max at $1,099 (£1,049, AU$1,849) for 128GB of storage. For the first time, you have the option to get 1TB of storage on an iPhone.

The iPhone 13 Pro is the second model from the top of the top in Apple’s 2021 smartphone line-up. The main difference to the top-of-the-line iPhone 13 Pro Max is the smaller 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, Both models are powered by the A15 Bionic chipset. On the audio playback front, the iPhone 13 Pro shares the same audio specs as the other 13-series phones, including partnering with Dolby Labs to deliver an immersive stereo reproduction. As for recording, the audio zoom algorithm is still implemented when filming videos. With the two devices sharing the same audio specs, one would expect the iPhone 13 Pro’s test results and scores to be identical to those of the iPhone 13 Pro Max. We have confirmed this by putting the iPhone 13 Pro through the DXOMARK Audio test suite.

For years now, Android brands love playing the numbers game. With smartphones, it's all about higher megapixels and larger camera lenses. Ultrawide, telephoto, and macro lens are now integral components of entry-level and mid-range phones. Here's the thing, though, a macro lens isn't really a feature that most people would use on their smartphone. You might have noticed that Macro lenses usually don't appear on flagship devices. That's because brands prefer prioritising ultrawide and telephoto lenses, which can deliver superior photos and videos. Then out of a sudden, Apple integrated its own macro on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The Apple iPhone 13 Pro sits amongst the upper echelons of premium phones. Not just because of the price, but for the ethos it embodies. While Android smartphones bend over backward to nudge forward the needle of innovation, Apple is taking smaller and more assured steps. Priced starting at $999, £949, or Rs. 1,19,900 (~$1,600) in my home region of India, the phone needs to justify that aura of premium-ness it has fostered. Instead of introducing, say, a foldable design or more lenses than you can shake a stick at, Apple is offering what it does best — a dependable phone. The iPhone 13 Pro promises only what it can deliver, and it delivers those features nine times out of 10. The basic foundation of the phone is rock solid and essentials like UI navigation, apps, security, and privacy features are polished to a sheen. The camera works consistently well and takes some of the best pictures you can get out of a phone. The phone further embellishes it with performance that won’t have you reaching for a replacement for years, and the battery life is hands-down amongst the best you can get on a flagship.

First things first. The iPhone 13 Pro is available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB(!!) storage options, with the base model starting at Rs 1,19,900. Now this isn’t a small amount to pay for a phone, but is in line with last year’s prices… so hardly any surprise there. As always, iPhones can conform to the same price vs specs ratios many of us are used to seeing on the Android side, and can’t be judged on that basis. With that said, let me see if I can help you figure out if the iPhone 13 Pro is for you. Right at the outset, it’s clear that if you’re already an iPhone 12 (review) or 12 Pro user, the benefits offered by the newer model might not appeal all that much, even though they’re reasonably substantial. If you own any of the previous models though, the 13 Pro would be a massive and a worthy upgrade. And if you’re trying to decide between a premium Android flagship and the iPhone 13 Pro, that’s a trickier one to figure out. As usual, I’d like to say that the real thing to decide in this case would be the ecosystem, and the related apps and services available for them.

With the newfound parity between the two Pro model sizes resulting in a shared camera system, the small Pro is suddenly in a position to be the iPhone of choice for more people than what the 12 was equipped to. While last year you had to go Max to get the ultimate cameras Apple offered, in 2021, it's only decided by dimensions and, somewhat consequently, battery life. It might sound like we're making excuses for the iPhone 13 Pro's flaws, but it's really doing a pretty decent job building its own defense. Unless the Max's display and endurance make a difference to the way you use your phone, the 13 Pro is the iPhone to get this year.

Of course, you might decide to wait for the iPhone 14 before you upgrade from your current Apple phone; if so check, out the seven biggest upgrades we want to see from the iPhone 14. But, if you want the absolute best experience on a phone possible right now, this is the device to get. Assuming you’re used to iOS, you won’t be disappointed.

Priced Rs 119,900 onwards, the iPhone 13 Pro is a solid all-round premium smartphone with something in store for everyone. Sure, it does not look any different from the iPhone 12 Pro, but do not let the looks deceive you. The iPhone 13 Pro is a meaningful upgrade with a bright and smooth display, stellar cameras with industry-first video-centric features, swift performance, and solid on-battery time. It is easy to recommend to existing iPhone users who might be planning an upgrade. For Android users, it may be a new experience worth a try.

Last year’s iPhone 12 Pro didn’t offer enough to make it worth the extra money over the excellent iPhone 12, but Apple has significantly beefed up the iPhone 13 Pro. The super-slick 120Hz screen significantly improves the experience of using the phone, bringing it up to par with top Android phones. The cameras are some of the very best with a 3x optical zoom, better low light shots and added macro photography. Combined with its good battery life and top performance, no one makes a better modest-sized phone. Plus Apple will support it with software updates beyond five years making it a long-lasting purchase. It is still an expensive, luxury phone that’s pretty heavy but not cutting-edge like flexible screen rivals. Like most new phones it is not worth upgrading to if you have a good recent model, either. The iPhone 13 Pro is Apple’s best. Not only is it the top “smaller” phone this year, but it is one of the standout phones of 2021.

The ProMotion display is the perfect example of what you get with the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. It’s an improvement that may only matter explicitly to a few but will subtly make life nicer for everybody who uses it. The battery life upgrade isn’t quite so subtle, of course. As for the camera, I can see it both ways. When you’re sharing photos and videos to social media and looking at them on a phone, the differences are subtle at most — but they’re there if you look for them. And if you use your iPhone’s camera for more than just Instagram, you’ll appreciate the updates. The list of significant things I have to complain about with these phones is almost astonishingly short. (Though, as you might expect, I can quibble for days about little things like the lack of a meaningful MagSafe ecosystem, the lightning port, or how iOS 15 handles notifications). The story of the iPhone 13 Pro is a story of iteration, sure, but iteration matters. iPhone 12 Pro owners will have to pay a lot of attention to see some of the differences, and an upgrade probably doesn’t make a lot of sense.

The iPhone 13 Pro looks great, includes one of the best cameras around, and far better battery life than I’ve ever seen before on a smaller-sized Pro model. It’s a fantastic phone that ticks just about all the boxes. The addition of the 120Hz display feels like the icing on the cake. For so long this has been a glaring omission from the iPhone spec list, reserved for Android devices only. Now that’s no longer the case – and it’s great news. If you upgraded last year then the iPhone 12 Pro remains excellent, and rumours of a big redesign coming next year (possibly without a notch) could make it worth sitting tight for an extra 12 months. If you own an older iPhone (or Android, for that matter) then the benefits here will be instantly noticeable.

At the end of the day, the iPhone 13 Pro was supposed to be this relatively quiet update. Another year, another iPhone. Well, it turns out that it's more than that. We think that Apple has managed to exceed expectations, handily. Despite all the leaks that correctly predicted the new camera features and increase in weight and battery size, the actual improvement in battery life are impressive and some have gone as far as to compare them to the battery leap that Apple achieved with the M1 chip on its Macbook Air laptops earlier this year. Should you upgrade from an iPhone 12 / Pro to this newer model? We would usually say 'no', but if you stumble upon a great trade-in offer and are bothered by the battery life on your device, then... go for it. For those coming from earlier iPhones, the iPhone 13 Pro feels like the right upgrade much more so than the regular iPhone 13.

The iPhone 13 Pro is Apple's most accomplished phone this year, with the Bionic 15 chip, 5G, a battery to last at least a full day and the best camera system on any smartphone. So yes, this is our pick from this year’s iPhone lineup. Since all phones have a bigger battery and the identical camera can be found on the 13 Pro, it’s harder to make a compelling argument from the iPhone 13 Pro Max, unless you’re a content creator glued to your iPhone. However, for £170 less, the iPhone 13 is a compelling alternative which offers an improved battery, the latest Bionic chip, 5G and an incredibly impressive camera powers. What it lacks is that third telephoto lens and the adaptive refresh rate, so it really boils down to your smartphone priorities. All the advancements you see here are incremental, but when you add them all up, it’s not insignificant. Some of the features seem a bit overkill, but a larger battery and boosted camera is exactly the kind of meaningful upgrade users so desperately wanted and now, with the iPhone 13 Pro, get.

Apple has certainly improved upon last year's iPhone 12 Pro (Review) and iPhone 12 Pro Max (Review) in significant ways. The cameras are better, battery life has improved, and the 120Hz displays are much appreciated. However, these phones won't exactly blow anyone away. If you have an iPhone 12 Pro or even an iPhone 11 Pro, you probably don't need to upgrade. If you can find the previous generation on sale at a significant discount, that might work just fine for you. If you have no budget constraints and just want the latest and greatest iPhone, go ahead and buy one of these – the experience won't disappoint. If you don't have Rs. 1,20,000 or more to spend on a phone though, there's a lot to think about. Cinematic Mode and Photography Styles are available on the non-pro iPhone 13 models, and they aren't exactly features you'd need enough to base a buying decision on.

For years, the iPhone has been the “gold standard” in the smartphone market. But the iPhone isn’t just a phone, it’s the reflection of your lifestyle. People buy Apple’s premium iPhone “Pro” range not because the device makes calls differently but because they want to show off how rich and tasteful they are.

Apple rarely makes big changes to their phones and it’s no different this year. The design is the same and while there are a couple of significant improvements and interesting new features, these new phones are fundamentally iterative updates of last year’s phones. But that’s just the way smartphones are. As I said before, gone are the days when you see huge leaps in performance and features year-on-year. Ultimately, this year’s phones build on the strengths of last year and rectifies some of their weaknesses. They look and feel expensive, performance is peerless, the displays are better, the cameras take nicer photos, and battery life is even longer. These are just very solid well rounded phones that are capable of doing many things very well. Those who decide to splash the cash will be very happy with their purchase. I only wished they got rid of that cursed Lightning port.

The lack of any meaningful design changes for the iPhone this year is going to cause some to dismiss these phones, especially given the compelling iPhone 14 rumors we're already hearing. However, the iPhone 13 Pro in particular is a massive step up versus last year’s model. It rights all of the wrongs of the iPhone 12 Pro with almost three additional hours of battery life, a camera array that matches the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and a 120Hz ProMotion display. The lack of a periscope zoom camera and truly fast charging are the only features that hold me back from saying this can match the best that Android has to offer, but it handily wins the performance war, so it’s a question of priorities. If you only buy a new iPhone every 3 to 5 years, then I understand the inclination to wait for a potentially big redesign next year. But rumors are only rumors, and the iPhone 13 Pro will not disappoint should you splurge on one today.

The iPhone 13 Pro is one of 2021’s best smartphones, even if it doesn’t quite do enough to warrant upgrading from the 12 Pro. The battery life is the best we’ve seen in Apple’s Pro iPhone, and you’re also getting top-level performance, a great camera package and a super-smooth 120Hz screen. Other than the fact the iPhone 13 Pro’s over-exposure problem, everything else about the phone is polished, refined, and in top form. For me, Cinematic mode, along with improved battery life are major upgrades. If you’re an iPhone user upgrading to the 13 Pro from an older model (11 or older), you won’t be disappointed. It’s an excellent iPhone, and even the best one this year if it wasn’t for the better battery life on the iPhone 13 Pro Max. However, those who already own the iPhone 12 Pro should think twice before upgrading. Unless you really want to shoot cinematic videos or suffer from battery anxiety regularly, the iPhone 13 Pro doesn’t bring enough upgrades to justify the purchase. Plus, with the recent rumors of the iPhone 14 getting a new design overhaul, perhaps it’s worth waiting one more year. If you are already using a 2020 or 2021 Android flagship, I don’t think you need to switch unless you’ve been frustrated by your phone’s video recording capabilities or battery life.

I'm not saying don't buy the iPhone 13 Pro. We just have to have preferences, and I think serious content creators will be happier with the big-screen viewfinder and two-day battery life of the iPhone 13 Pro Max, while the average iPhone buyer will be satisfied balancing price and performance with the main iPhone 13. But if you want the best iPhone camera in a more pocketable size, not to mention better battery life than the standard iPhone 13, you'll be happy with the 13 Pro—it doesn't have major downsides. It just doesn't stand out in its crowd of competitors.

I’ll say it upfront; the iPhone 13 Pro is the new iPhone model you should buy if you can afford it. Unlike last year’s iPhone 12 Pro, it has all the same capabilities as the larger Pro Max model. You’ll remember that last year, the 12 Pro Max had bigger camera sensors, giving it better lowlight performance and 3x optical zoom, rather than 2x. Not so this year. The iPhone 13 Pro has all the guts of the 13 Pro Max (aside from battery capacity and screen size, of course) without busting your hand or your wallet. Add into the mix the powerful A15 Bionic processor, 120Hz ProMotion display, battery life that can last almost two days, and excellent camera performance, and you get the best iPhone 13 model in the entire lineup. Yes. There’s no question that the iPhone 13 Pro is the best model in the entire lineup, with all the same capabilities as the Pro Max without the bulk or the bigger hit to your wallet.

Apple is here with their new flagship phone iPhone 13 series, this year. As always, the improvements are not that significant in this year’s iPhones, but they are not that obvious at first glance. Since last year, the most important upgrades that we got this year are on the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. With an improved camera, high refresh rate 120Hz display, and a bigger battery, this is the most improved iPhone I have ever seen functionally. If you are looking for a handheld compact device that offers all these new features, the iPhone 13 Pro is the smartphone to go for.

Apple’s 2021 iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max iOS 15 smartphones are on an “S” year, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a strong list of compelling improvements. Sure, they won’t bend in half like a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 or Fold 3, and the design is the same as last year (other than new colors and a larger camera array). But the iPhones bring significantly improved cameras with now class-leading night mode, Cinematic Mode videos (fun!), a variable refresh 120Hz OLED display and significantly longer battery life. Standard features include MagSafe fast wireless charging, 5G including mmWave, Wi-Fi 6, Face ID, 1200 nit max brightness displays and 128GB to 1 TB storage. Both the 6.1” Pro and the 6.7” Pro Max share identical cameras with wider aperture lenses, Sensor Shift OIS on the main lens, macro mode, Dolby Vision HDR video recording and more.

Unlike last year, the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max vary by size, battery life and price, but both phones now have the same camera array.

The iPhone 13 Pro is an interesting phone. On one hand, it's a monster performer with a gorgeous OLED display and an elegant industrial design. On the other, Apple has taken great pains to block third parties from repairing that hardware should that vibrant screen get cracked or the battery give out. It's got a polished UI, tons of features, and loads of integration within the company's ecosystem. However, some of the most-hyped features are missing and some of that integration -- most notably unlocking the device with an Apple Watch -- has been broken. The camera experience is excellent right up until the point that it falls apart in low light situations. More specific issues even stand out: the display supports 120Hz but not all the time, depending on the APIs being used. And just about every app needs an update using keys that Apple didn't see fit to document until the device was released.

And that’s the sentiment I’d echo for the iPhone 13 Pro as a whole: it’s pretty decent. Not a groundbreaking update but a solid one, with better stills photography, better video features, improved battery life and zippier performance. In fact, I think the iPhone 13 Pro is the pick of the four iPhone models released in 2021. It’s just as capable as – and more pocketable than – the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and cheaper, too. And you get faster graphics and a brighter display than the iPhone 12, plus ProMotion 120Hz support and a 3x telephoto camera. On the other hand, if you don’t care whether you buy an iPhone or an Android handset, you should probably opt for a Samsung Galaxy S21 instead, which currently offers far better value. It may not be as quick as the iPhone 13 Pro, but it’s currently at least £300 cheaper. In the end, the choice is yours, but there’s no doubt the iPhone 13 Pro is a very good handset and the best option for iPhone enthusiasts.

Look, if you have an iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max, you should probably sit 2021’s update out. Apple may not have used its “S” branding, but the iPhone 13 Pro is the epitome of evolutionary change. Improved, sure, but only those utterly addicted to life on the (expensive) bleeding edge should upgrade from last year’s models. Anybody with an older iPhone, though, should give the iPhone 13 Pro serious consideration. Even if the fancier camera tech isn’t swaying you, the core hardware improvements in Apple’s sensors makes a noticeable difference. iOS 15 is showcased at its best on the excellent ProMotion display and the punchy A15 Bionic chipset, and the battery improvements mean that experience won’t expire prematurely. Do I wish it didn’t start at $999 for the iPhone 13 Pro, $1,099 for the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and that Apple would deign to include a charger in the box? Sure, but the reality is that we’re well into the age of four-figure flagships, and I suspect anybody buying a “Pro” phone knows they’ll pay handsomely for the privilege.

2021 will probably be the year when the Pro model regains sales numbers compared to its Pro Max sibling, something we haven't seen in the last few years. And, the reasons are simple, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are identical, except for the bigger display and a bigger battery. This year, Apple offers similar camera features on both its Pro models, which wasn't the case with the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. So, when you buy the iPhone 13 Pro, you save money and get a better manageable device overall for everyday usage. As an iPhone 12 Pro user, I don't see any point in upgrading to the 13 Pro because there aren't any new additions that blow me away. But anyone and everyone using the iPhone 11 or older devices should definitely think of upgrading to the new Pro model if your pocket allows it.

With faster screens, superb performance and long-lasting batteries, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max are excellent phones. If you’re on a device older than the 12 Pros, you should consider upgrading just for the new ProMotion displays. Though the cameras also got a noteworthy improvement, I’m not sure they’re going to be the biggest draw. It’s honestly hard to spot the difference in quality between photos taken by Apple’s recent flagships. Features like Cinematic Mode, Photographic Styles and macro cameras are nice to have, but won’t define your iPhone 13 Pro experience. And though Apple was playing catch up to Android flagships by finally introducing 120Hz screens to its phones, there are now fewer things that Samsung and Google offer that the iPhones don’t. For basically anyone who doesn’t mind iOS, the iPhone 13 Pro (and Pro Max, if you don’t mind its weight) is a worthy upgrade.

The iPhone 13 Pro is as close to a surefire hit as you can get: new cameras across the board, a killer fast processor that runs rings round all the Android phones out there, an awesome OLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate, all wrapped up in a neat piece of steel and glass. But is it worth the money? And is it enough of an improvement on the previous model to be worth an upgrade? Chances are pretty good that you're sitting with the iPhone 12 Pro in your hand, which is also a very good phone. So do you need to upgrade? No, you don't. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are a technological tour de force with best-in-class craftsmanship and hardware performance, as well as an iOS 15 platform that’s designed to take full advantage of their advanced capabilities. I think Apple’s display and camera upgrades are significant and enough to justify making the jump to the 13 Pro family. The 13 Pro Max is the one to get if you are looking for the most display and battery life in an iPhone — there’s no task or workflow that it isn’t up for. The smaller iPhone 13 Pro is just as powerful, but much easier to use with one hand on the go. Entry-level iPhone 13 Pro variants come with 128GB of onboard storage. You can double the memory for another $100. A 512GB iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max costs $200 more than the 256GB version. The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max are phones designed for people who care about the details. The improvements over last year’s iPhones are significant but not obvious at first glance. Just as with the regular iPhone 13 and 13 Mini, the most important upgrades on the 13 Pro are to battery life and the camera system. The 13 Pro adds a third major improvement with a high refresh rate screen. Upgrading the battery, camera, and screen sounds like an iterative, yearly update; they sound like the so-called “S” updates that Apple used to do for iPhones before its naming schemes became unpredictable. And it is true that the design is virtually identical to that of last year’s iPhone 12 Pros. But those assumptions — those words — don’t quite do justice to how big the changes really are.

I've always said that if you're an iPhone user and you take care of your smartphone, you can likely get at least three or even four years out of your device. Last year, the jump from the iPhone 11 Pro to the iPhone 12 Pro was far more substantial than I expected. It included a near-complete camera redesign and an entirely new look, two additions that are notorious for actually convincing people to upgrade. Camera performance has been improved in the iPhone 13 Pro/iPhone 13 Pro Max (but only marginally so), there's a new, powerful A15 chip, and Cinematic mode is indeed very cool. There's a lot to like about this year's iPhone 13 series, and it's a worthwhile upgrade if you're using an iPhone older than the 12. If you own an iPhone 12 device, though, you're likely better off waiting for the inevitable iPhone 14.

That looks like your last phone, was the comment we got when showing family members the new iPhone 13 Pro. And they would be right. Unless you look closely, you'll be hard pushed to notice the differences over its predecessor. Start to use the iPhone 13 Pro, however, and you'll slowly begin to notice those small but important changes. The increased battery life is an obvious benefit, the smoother screen experience is great (and the more entry iPhone 13 lacks this ProMotion feature), and that updated notch is less noticeable too. It's just all-round better. Ultimately it feels like Apple's 2021 iPhones are all about refining rather than offering anything brand new. While that's not exciting for those eager to get all the new toys and tech, the iPhone 13 Pro is still as a refined an Apple phone as you can buy - so if you're in the market for an upgrade from an older generation then it'll feel genuinely impressive.

All in all, although it might look like a lightweight update on paper, the Apple iPhone 13 Pro brings plenty of improvements this year. It will almost certainly be faster than last year’s phone thanks to the new A15 Bionic chip and, with that new narrower notch, it looks a touch more modern, too. It also comes with a larger battery that may well deliver improved stamina, although this isn’t guaranteed. Plus, those improvements to the cameras bring it in line with the iPhone Pro Max, ensuring those who don’t get along with largest, heaviest iPhone no longer have to sacrifice features to get an iPhone in the size they prefer. If this looks it might tempt you into upgrading, pre-orders are set to open from 15th September 2021 and units will ship from Friday 24th September.
