Apple weiß weiterhin mit den Unibody MacBooks zu überzeugen. Design, Haptik und Stabilität sind unübertroffen. Auch die Performance ist für ein 2.5 kg Notebook hervorragend, jedoch ist die 9600M GT nicht mehr ganz aktuell. Das verbesserte Display gefällt durch einen erweiterten Farbraum, ist jedoch leider immer noch nicht in matt erhältlich. Die größte Neuerung ist der integrierte 72 Wh Akku, welcher fantastische Akkulaufzeiten von bis zu 8,5 h ermöglicht. Leider ist er nicht vom User wechselbar, was im Servicefall ärgerlich sein kann.

Kommen wir nun zum Fazit zu den neuen MacBook-Pro-Modellen. Aufgrund der Tatsache, dass sich beide Geräte in ihrem Anwendungsbereich unterscheiden, wollen wir sie auch im Fazit getrennt betrachten. Den Einstieg in die Unibody-Welt stellt nun nicht mehr das MacBook dar, sondern das kleinste MacBook Pro. Mehrere Gründe sind denkbar, warum Apple das kleine Aluminium-MacBook zu einem MacBook Pro gemacht hat. Zum einen, um das eigene Namensschema auf eine baldige Neuvorstellung vorzubereiten, zum anderen, um die gebotenen Features der früheren Namensgebung anzupassen.

  Für Einsteiger sind die Top-Modelle der jeweiligen Modellreihen, die uns erreichen, allein vom Preis her nicht zu empfehlen. Hier sollten Profis zugreifen, die auf Leistung pur abzielen. Am meisten Power bekommt man derzeit mit dem 15-Zoll-Macbook Pro, das durch den zusätzlichen diskreten Grafikchip ein Quäntchen mehr an Grafikleistung liefert. Wer darauf verzichten kann, ist auch mit dem 13-Zoll-Modell gut bedient. Die Displays beider Modelle unterscheiden sich, abgesehen von der Auflösung kaum noch von einander.

Mit dem leichten und verwindungssteifen Unibody aus einem Alu-Block und dem ergiebigen Akku verkörpern sie eine ziemlich ideale Kombination vo Laufzeit, Leistung, Laufruhe und Design - allein das Gewicht könnte etwas niedriger sein.

It continues to be an excellent system in terms of performance and style that make it a highly desirable 15-inch laptop on the market. The price drop to $1700 still keeps it quite expensive but more affordable. Users will definitely like the added battery life but peripheral ports still remain the biggest obstacle for Apple's latest revision.

We know what's coming. Two cores, Hyper Threading and Turbo Boost. Chances are Arrandale will be the first noticeable performance improvement the MacBook Pro line has seen since 2007. If these machines weren't so good, waiting would be the only option.
Apple deserves credit for giving users a reason to upgrade. Intel bases its roadmaps off of how competitive AMD will be in the future. AMD's mobile CPUs weren't doing so well, and thus the mobile Core 2 Duo lineup didn't improve in performance much over the past couple of years.

However, at £1,699/$2,299, it is no doubt the least favourite when it comes to value for money in the entire Macbook range, disregarding the values from the PCMark Vantage benchmark results. Most of its disadvantages are identical to the other models in the range, and arise from its limited selection of ports. Most of its advantages are also identical to the other models in the range, from the amazing battery life and the excellent aluminium chassis, to the wonderful display and silent cooling system.

With the range of configuration options already on offer, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a more adaptable 15-inch MacBook Pro in future. At least a paid ExpressCard option would mean that users committed to the format could still keep the notebook on their shortlist. As it stands, like the 13-inch model it’s a usable, attractive and undeniably appealing laptop, with a great display, admirable performance and an OS that not only works well now but that’s set to improve once again when Snow Leopard arrives. Let’s just hope that for their next generation Apple decides to reconnect with the minority users that, in many cases, have been its most vocal advocates.

  If you did splash out on the silver unibody MacBook Pro Lite only a few months ago, you're entitled to be annoyed now there's a real 13 inch Pro. Still, I wouldn't dump it on the nature strip and rush out to buy the Pro. Apart from battery life all you're really missing out on is Firewire, something you obviously decided you could live without when weighing up your purchase. You can also bet that this first-gen 13 inch MacBook Pro will go through a refresh or two before your current MacBook reaches the end of its life.

We'll admit to being extremely wary whenever Apple makes changes to the 15-inch MacBook Pro. 15-inch MBPs running all manner of operating systems are pervasive in the Engadget ranks, and when we hit the road at events like CES and E3 we tend to standardize on them so we can do things like... share batteries. So it's fair to say we went into testing somewhat skeptical, and after a week with the midrange $1,999 configuration we're only slightly less ambivalent about Apple's latest revision of its most popular pro machine -- it's still solid, but we just don't think mobile professionals will be as pleased with Apple's design choices as the general consumer.

  The 15in Apple MacBook Pro seems larger than it is. This is a good thing. Given that the overall design of the MacBook Pro is unchanged, the updates to the model line are evolutionary. It's the price cuts that, for Apple, border on the revolutionary. Ask Apple officials about that and they talk about wanting to "bring more value" to the laptop equation. That, Apple has done. At a time when the economy is soft, companies are squirreling away every IT panny they can, and consumers are leery of big, new purchases, they need every justification possible before plunking money down for a new computer. Price cuts, solid construction and innovative features, combined with a new OS that'll be just £19 in three months, might just do the trick.

Beim Retina Display, ursprünglich als innovative Technologie gemeinsam mit dem iPhone 4 vorgestellt, ist die Pixeldichte so hoch, dass die menschliche Retina einzelne Pixel nicht mehr unterscheiden kann. Dank seines Retina Displays erhielt das iPhone 4 vom Wall Street Journal den Titel "Bestes Gerät seiner Klasse" und wurde von Engadet als "Bestes Smarthphone am Markt" bezeichnet. Das im Juni auf der WWDC in San Franciso vorgestellte MacBook Pro mit Retina Display soll als eigenständige, vom ursprünglichen MacBook Pro unabhängige Produktlinie an den Erfolg des iPhone 4 anschließen.

Abgesehen vom Retina Display, erhielt der neue Laptop auch ein neues Design, das an das MacBook Air erinnert, sieht man von fehlenden SuperDrive, Ethernet und FireWire 800 ab. Zudem bekam es, anders als die ursprünglichen MacBooks Pro Serien, die mit einer herkömmlichen Festplatte auskommen müssen, ein Solid-State-Drive. Kurzum, das neue MacBook Pro mit Retina Bildschirm bietet die Vorteile aller aktuellen Technologien von Apple, angefangen vom fantastischen Bildschirm des iPhones und iPads über gute Systemleistung bis hin zu Portabilität, Design und Flash-Laufwerk.

Im besonderen der Retina Bildschirm ist aktuell der schärfste Bildschirm und übertrifft zum Zeitpunkt seiner Einführung alle anderen Laptop- und Computerbildschirme. Der Bildschirm spielt eine derart wichtige Rolle, dass Apple sogar die Bezeichnung "MacBook Pro mit Retina Display" gewählt hat. Der Bildschirm wiegt in der Tat die nachteilige Preisgestaltung auf – der Laptop stammt schließlich von Apple. Vorausgesetzt der hohe Einstiegspreis ist leistbar, handelt es sich um den tollsten Laptop, den man aktuell kaufen kann.

NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT: Nachfolger der 8600M GT und durch 65nm Prozess deutlich höhere Taktraten (und dadurch mehr Performance) bei gleichem Stromverbrauch. Dadurch sollte die Leistung einer 8700M GT erreicht werden können (bei Verwendung von GDDR3). Verbesserte Videofunktionen (VP3), HybridPower und Hybrid SLI Unterstützung.

Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Core Duo Nachfolger mit längerer Pipeline und 5-20% Geschwindigkeitszuwachs bei 0.5 - 3 Watt mehr Stromverbrauch.

Der Notebook Core 2 Duo ist baugleich mit den Desktop Core 2 Duo Prozessoren, jedoch werden die Notebook-Prozessoren mit niedrigeren Spannungen und geringerem Frontsidebus Takt betrieben. Von der Leistung bleiben gleichgetaktete Notebooks deswegen (und auch wegen der langsameren Festplatten) 20-25% hinter Desktop PCs.

P8400: Der P8400 ist ein Mittelklasse-Dual-Core Prozessor der Core 2 Duo Reihe. Durch den TDP von 25W eignet sich die CPU auch für kleinere Notebooks.
