Die neuen Plattformen von AMD und Intel liefern ein differenziertes Ergebnis. Zwar stimmen bei beiden Anbietern die Ansätze, doch einem stimmigen Gesamtergebnis kommt in dieser Runde nur Intel sehr nahe. Die mobilen Eigenschaften der Lösungen sind zum Teil hervorragend und auch die Preise erfreuen. Allerdings fehlt den Prozessoren etwas Leistung bzw. ein zweiter Kern. Denn steigt der Leistungsbedarf oder will man mehr als nur eine Anwendung gleichzeitig arbeiten lassen, geht den Systemen schnell die Puste aus.

Erhältlich in den Farbvarianten weiß und blau (in Europa), weiß das Acer Aspire A110 durchaus zu gefallen. Aber es sieht nicht nur adrett aus. Auch an Stabilität und Verwindungssteifigkeit des Gehäuses gibt es grundsätzlich nichts auszusetzen. Die Leistung dieses Netbooks ist ganz an seine Bestimmung angepasst: Internet und Officeanwendungen für unterwegs. Wenn man die Geduld für mitunter lengthre Wartezeiten beim Start von Anwendungen aufbringen kann, ist es dafür, mit Intel Atom N270 CPU und integrierter GMA 950 Chipsatzgrafik, wirklich ausreichend ausgestattet. Der Massenspeicher, eine Solid-State-Disk, ist mit 8 Gigabyte zwar reichlich klein, dafür aber leise und robust (keine mechanischen Teile im Inneren). Einzig die niedrige Haupspeicherkapazität von nur 512 Megabyte erweist sich als echter Flaschenhals.

Der Acer Aspire One ist günstig - und schön: Die Linux-Version gibt es ab 330 Euro, und der Glanzgehäuse ist ein echtes Schmuckstück. Dank Linux und der vielen installierten Programme lässt sich der Aspire One komfortabel bedienen. Ein klarer Minuspunkt ist aber der geringe Festplattenplatz, der sich aber über den Storage-Expansion-Slot unkompliziert nachrüsten lässt. Die Tastatur ist auch für Viel- und Schnellschreiber recht gut geeignet. Dagegen nervte das kleine Touchpad mit seiner ungewohnten Tastenanordnung im Praxisbetrieb. Im mobilen Einsatz zeigte der Aspire One Licht und Schatten: Er ist sehr leicht, die Akkulaufzeit aber zu kurz. Das spiegelnde Display gefällt in Innenräumen, für draußen ist es weniger geeignet.

Das Acer Aspire One macht keine schlechte Figur. Preislich ist es jedenfalls interessant - für 329 Euro in der Linux Variante bekommt man ein Westentaschengerät, dass man überall dabei haben kann. Zumindest, bis die Batterie nach 2,5 Stunden schlapp macht. Der Produktivität unterwegs steht nichts im Weg, da Open Office 2.3 vorinstalliert ist. Firefox bringt den Nutzer ins Netz, und sowohl Email Client als auch ein Messenger sind installiert. Die Spiele sind zwar simpel, aber unterhaltsam und haben teilweise Suchtpotential. Schade, dass es sich um nur eingeschränkt nutzbare Demo-Versionen handelt - zumal man die meisten als Flash-Spiele kostenlos im Netz findet. Der Media-Player gibt sich wählerisch. Im Audiobereich versteht er sich auf MP3, OGG und WMA. MP4/AAC bleiben aber außen vor. Dass ein Linux das proprietäre WMV abspielt, dafür aber kein XVID kennt, war unerwartet.

Ebenso wie der EeePC ist das farbenfrohe Gehäuse des Aspire One sehr robust gebaut. Auch bei der Befestigung des Displays gibt es nichts zu beanstanden, obwohl diese im Gegensatz zum Netbook von Asus nicht ganz so massiv ausgeführt ist. Demzufolge eignet sich das Aspire One sehr gut für den mobilen Einsatz. Da auch die Bedienung der Linux-Oberfläche sehr einfach zu erlernen ist, dürften auch Menschen, die nicht so geübt im Umgang mit Rechnern sind, sich leicht zurecht finden. Erhältlich ist das Acer Aspire one 110L bereits seit Ende Juli 2008. Der empfohlene Verkaufspreis von Acer inklusive einem Jahr Herstellergarantie beträgt 329 Euro.

Der Acer Aspire One ist eine echte Konkurrenz zum Asus Eee PC: Er überflügelt sowohl die Linux- wie die Windows-Variante des Netbook-Pioneers in vielen Aspekten. Und er ist günstig: Während aktuelle Netbooks schon bei rund 400 Euro liegen, kostet der Aspire One nur 330 Euro. Das schönste Netbook ist er außerdem – wenn man ihn regelmäßig reinigt. Dank Linux und der vielen installieren Programme lässt sich der Aspire One komfortabel bedienen. Doch für einige Tools gibt es ausgereiftere und leistungsfähigere Alternativen, die Linux-Kenner anstelle des Acer-Angebotes installieren sollten. Die Rechenleistung reicht für das beschränkte Einsatzgebiet des Aspire One vollkommen aus. Ein klarer Minuspunkt ist aber der geringe Festplattenplatz: Hier ist der Medion Akoya mit seiner 80-GB-Festplatte deutlich besser aufgestellt.

Oder es kann Leute begeistern, die es als Zweit oder Dritt-Gerät für die auf Seite 3 beschriebenen einfachen Zwecke verwenden. Bereits das Aspire one aus der Vorserie gefällt uns extrem gut und wesentlich besser als die Eee PCs 701 4G und 900. Das NetBook ist nicht nur liebevoller und wertiger gestaltet, sondern auch flotter, moderner und besser ausgestattet. Wenn Acer auch noch die Laufzeit etwas verbessert, gibt es außer dem etwas niedrigeren Preis keinen Grund mehr, einen Eee PC 701 4G und erst recht keinen Eee PC 900 zu kaufen.

We were able to test the Aspire One with the 6-cell battery – at present only available as an optional extra through Acer’s online store for $108.90. This sticks out 3cm from the rear and brings the total weight up to 1.3kg. With the screen set to 40 per cent brightness and all power-saving features off, it ran for 5 hours and 6 minutes with Wi-Fi on. Couple that with the 3-cell battery, which runs for 2.5 hours, and you’ve easily got all-day battery life.

Doubling the processing power will no doubt have an impact on performance and things like HD video playback should become a reality.

Price wise, it is definitely an interesting alternative as this Linux-based pocket-sized machine that can be used on the go almost anywhere (until the battery runs out 2.5 hours later) retails for only $329. Productivity while out and about is not a problem as Open Office 2.3 is already preinstalled. Firefox gets the user onto the Internet, and an email client http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_client and a messenger are also installed. The games are simple, but entertaining, and in some cases have the potential to become addictive. It is a pity that the installed versions are limited demo versions, particularly as the majority of the games are available free of charge as Flash games on the Internet. The media player is picky. The audio section can handle MP3, OGG and WMA wma files, but MP4/AAC files are ignored.

Although I have sounded negative in a few areas of this review, I really do like the Aspire One. Can I recommend it as a main laptop for a student? No, I cannot. You really do need something that’s larger, more powerful and more durable to serve you through college. If you’re on a tight budget, i can understand the appeal of a $349 laptop, but why not spend $50 - $100 more and get a 15.4″ screen Compaq C50Q or Celeron powered Acer laptop? The larger screen and fuller sized keyboard is a really big deal for usability.

Since the prices of mini-notebooks have seemingly been escalating with each new model, we’re pleased to see one for just $349, adhering to the idea of the “low-cost PC.” The 9-inch Asus Eee PC 901 XP ($520 with rebate at Newegg.com, as of this writing) has a faster solid state drive, but the Aspire one offers much more capacity (120GB vs. 12GB) and costs $171 less. And even if you opt for the Aspire one with the 6-cell battery, you’ll still be paying $121 less. The touchpad is small and the vertical buttons are awkward, but we prefer the Aspire one overall because it offers a superior keyboard and much better bang for your buck. In the suddenly crowded field of mini-notebooks, the XP version of the Aspire one offers the best value.

The Aspire One is everything a Small, Cheap, Computer should be. The build quality is excellent, the feature list is not half bad, and it certainly looks and feels the part. Indeed, it's the best-looking SCC we've seen. On the down side, the standard battery is poor and - with the Linux versions at least - getting online using a 3G network isn't straightforward. Of course, the really great thing about the AA1 is that you can tuck it under your arm, go our and feel far less of a tit than if you were carrying a MacBook Air. Worth buying for that alone, if you ask us.

Based on our experience with other netbooks to-date, we're understandably quite disappointed with the Aspire One. With most new netbook models' battery performance lasting three hours or upwards, it's quite a let down on Acer's part to say the least. All hope is not lost however, as there have been news floating around the interwebs of a 5200mAH 6-cell battery from Acer (which is not cheap though). It does have some nice things going for it, such as a larger keyboard, which has a pretty good layout for easy typing. While the screen was bright and clear, the extra space at the sides could have been utilized for a much bigger screen. Software performance was just satisfactory, though as we mentioned in our previous page, power users may want to look for alternatives to the default Linpus Linux Lite OS provided if one is still keen on the Aspire One. The operating system provided, while restrictive, does allow for a simple and easy to use experience for the more novice folks through its nice GUI interface. That's not to say the Aspire One is bad as it's just pretty hard to justify getting one when there are other options available on the market.

As for usability, stakes are covered. The keyboard is surprisingly roomy, with no tricky layout problems to work around, beyond the slightly small function keys - not a huge problem. The touchpad on the other hand is the focus of some frustration, being both tiny and annoy to use for clicking on things thanks to the vertical mouse buttons. A travel mouse is definitely something worth budgeting for. At least you won't need a webcam or microphone, as these are integrated above the screen. The Acer Aspire One is an impressive piece of work. By keeping a close eye on that all-important price, yet hitting all the major areas that need them, it has produced a wonderfully compact companion for the road, or as a roaming PC for the home. Asus better watch out, otherwise it'll lose out big time to this tiny wonder.

If you’ve been hedging your bets when it comes to buying a low-cost laptop along the lines of the Asus Eee PC, you’ve been wise to keep your wallet closed for so long. Asus may have all but created the market for the ‘netbook’, but now other laptop manufacturers are jumping on the bandwagon and the latest is Acer with its Aspire One. All netbooks have so far followed the same ultra-portable laptop design to some extent and the Aspire One certainly doesn’t buck the trend. Serie: Preislich gehört es zu den allerbilligsten Geräten, die man derzeit bekommen kann. Aufgrund der extrem niedrigen Auflösung muss man beim Internet-Surfen sehr viel scrollen.

Intel Atom: Die Intel Atom Serie besteht aus 64-Bit Mikroprozessoren für günstige und stromsparende Notebooks, MIDs oder UMPC. Besonderheit der Architektur, ist das die Befehle nicht wie derzeit üblich (z. B. Intel Core Architekture oder AMD Turion) "out of Order"  sondern  "in  Order"  ausgeführt  werden. Dadurch verliert man zwar einiges an Performance, jedoch spart dies Transistoren und daher Kosten und dadurch auch etwas Strom.

8.90": Bei dieser Display-Größe stehen große Smartphones und ein paar kleine Tablets zur Verfügung. Anders als bei den meisten Smartphones sieht man mehr am Bildschirm, mehr Details und kann größere Auflösungen nutzen. Für fehlsichtige Menschen sind solche Formate besser.
