Die CPU basiert auf den Alder Lake-S Desktop-Chip und bietet alle 8 Performance Kerne (P-Kerne, Golden Cove Architektur) und 8 Effizienzkerne (E-Kerne, Gracemont Architektur). Die P-Kerne unterstützten Hyperthreading (daher gemeinsam 24 Threads) und takten von 2,3 bis 5 GHz. Die E-Kerne takten von 1,7 - 3,6 GHz und sollen eine vergleichbare Performance wie alte Skylake Kerne bieten (z.B. i7-6920HQ). Die CPU bietet einen freien Multiplikator, wodurch sich die CPU übertakten lässt. Im Unterschied zum 12950HX, bietet der 12900HX kein vPro oder ECC Support.
Performance
Durch die zwei zusätzlichen P-Kerne und den höheren TDP sollte der i9-12900HX deutlich schneller sein als der i9-12900HK. Dadurch eignet sich die CPU hervorragend für anspruchsvolle Anwendungen und Spiele.
Grafikeinheit
Wie auch der Vorgänger, integriert Intel in Alder Lake eine Intel Xe basierende Grafikeinheit. Beim 12900HX sind alle 32 EUs aktiviert und takten mit bis zu 1,55 GHz. Der schwächere 12900HK Mobilchip bietet 96 EUs.
Features
Wie auch Tiger Lake, hat auch Alder-Lake-P WiFi 6E und Thunderbolt 4 (4x) teilintegriert. Der integrierte Speicherkontroller unterstützt DDR5-4800 und DDR4-3200. Der integrierte Gaussian and Neural Accelerator (GNA) ist nun in Version 3.0 verbaut. Die Media Engine Quick Sync 8 ist die selbe wie in Rocket Lake und unterstützt MPEG-2, AVC, VC-1 Decode, JPEG, VP8 Decode, VP9, HEVC und AV1 Decode. Der Chip unterstützt 48 PCIe Lanes, davon 16 PCIe 5.0 (x16 oder 2 x8).
Leistungsaufnahme
Der Intel Core i9-12900HX ist mit 55 Watt TDP angegeben (PL2 157 Watt). Gefertigt wird der 12900HX im modernen Intel 7 Prozess (10 nm).

Die CPU basiert auf den Alder Lake-P Chip (für H und P-Serie) und bietet alle 6 Performance Kerne (P-Kerne, Golden Cove Architektur) und 8 Effizienzkerne (E-Kerne, Gracemont Architektur). Die P-Kerne unterstützten Hyperthreading (daher gemeinsam 20 Threads) und takten von 2,5 bis 5 GHz. Die E-Kerne takten von 1,8 - 3,8 GHz und sollen eine vergleichbare Performance wie alte Skylake Kerne bieten (z.B. i7-6920HQ). Im Vergleich zum 12900HK bietet der 12900H keinen freien Multiplikator, aber unterstützt das volle "Enterprise" Feature-Set von vPro (Management Features).
Performance
Im Vergleich zum Intel Core i9-11980HK (Tiger Lake-H mit 8 Kernen) kann der 12900H in allen Bereichen punkten. Die neuen Golden Cove Kerne bieten eine leicht höhere Single Thread Performance und dank der gesamt 14 Kerne können Multi-Thread-Anwendungen deutlich beschleunigt werden. Intel gibt z.b. bei Spielen eine 13% höhere Performance an (1080p high) und bei Blender Rendering 30% weniger Renderzeit (BMW Car Demo).
Grafikeinheit
Wie auch der Vorgänger, integriert Intel in Alder Lake eine Intel Xe basierende Grafikeinheit. Beim 12900H sind alle 96 EUs aktiviert und takten mit bis zu 1,45 GHz.

Im Vergleich zum 12900H bietet der 12800H etwas geringere Taktraten und bietet ebenfalls das volle "Enterprise"-Set von vPro.
Performance
Durch die 14 Kerne sollte die Multithread-Leistung deutlich oberhalb der alten Tiger-Lake-8-Kerner liegen und auch das alte Topmodell Intel Core i9-11980HK schlagen. Bei der Einzelkernperformance dürfte der 12800H auch noch schneller sein, danke der neuen Architektur.
