Der Intel Core i7-7920HQ ist ein schneller Quad-Core-Prozessor für Notebooks auf Basis der Kaby-Lake-Architektur, der im Jänner 2017 vorgestellt wurde. Zum Zeitpunkt der Präsentation stellt er das Consumer-Topmodell seiner Baureihe dar und wird nur vom Xeon E3-1535M v6 minimal geschlagen. Neben den vier CPU-Kernen inklusive Hyper-Threading-Support, die mit 3,1 bis 4,1 GHz takten (4 Kerne: max. 3,7 GHz, 2 Kerne: max. 3,9 GHz), integriert der Prozessor auch eine HD Graphics 630 Grafikeinheit sowie einen Dual-Channel-Speichercontroller (DDR3L-1600/DDR4-2133). Die Fertigung erfolgt in einem 14-Nanometer-Prozess mit FinFET-Transistoren.

Architektur

Im Vergleich mit Skylake hat Intel die zugrundeliegende Mikroarchitektur praktisch unverändert übernommen, sodass sich keine Unterschiede in der Pro-MHz-Leistung ergeben. Überarbeitet wurde lediglich die Speed-Shift-Technik zur schnelleren dynamischen Anpassung von Spannungen und Taktraten, zudem gestattet der gereifte 14-Nanometer-Prozess deutlich höhere Frequenzen und eine bessere Energieeffizienz als bislang.

Performance

Durch die leicht erhöhten Taktraten (max 7,9%) verglichen mit dem Skylake Vorgänger Core i7-6920HQ (2,9 - 3,8 GHz) steigt auch die Performance leicht an und kann sich daher an die Spitze der mobilen (Consumer) Prozessoren Anfang 2017 setzen. Dadurch reicht die Leistung auch für sehr anspruchsvolle Aufgaben und ist auf einem Level mit schnellen Desktop Quad-Core Prozessoren.

Grafikeinheit

Die integrierte Intel HD Graphics 630 Grafikkarte verfügt wie die alte HD Graphics 530 über 24 Ausführungseinheiten (EUs) und taktet in diesem Fall mit 350 - 1100 MHz. Die Performance hängt stark vom verwendeten Arbeitsspeicher ab; mit schnellem DDR4-2133 im Dual-Channel-Betrieb sollte die Leistung mit einer dedizerten Nvidia GeForce 920M vergleichbar sein.

Anders als Skylake kann Kaby Lake nun auch H.265/HEVC im Main10-Profil mit 10 Bit Farbtiefe sowie Googles VP9-Codec in Hardware decodieren. Die Anfang Jänner eingeführten Dual-Core-Kaby-Lake-Prozessoren sollten außerdem schon HDCP 2.2 beherrschen.

Leistungsaufnahme

Die Fertigung erfolgt in einem weiter verbesserten 14-Nanometer-Prozess mit FinFET-Transistoren, wodurch die Energieeffizienz nochmals spürbar gestiegen ist. Die TDP wird mit 45 Watt spezifiziert und kann je nach Einsatzzweck auch auf 35 Watt abgesenkt werden vom Notebookhersteeller (cTDP Down). Dadurch verringert sich jedoch auch die Durchschnittliche Leistung, da der Turbo nicht so lange gehalten wird.

Intel Core i7-4500U

Der Intel Core i7-4500U ist ein sparsamer Dual-Core-Prozessor auf Basis der Haswell-Architektur, der für den Einsatz in Ultrabooks vorgesehen ist. Dank Hyperthreading können die 2 Kerne gleichzeitig bis zu 4 Threads bearbeiten. Die in 22 Nanometer gefertigte CPU taktet mit 1,8 GHz, kann per Turbo Boost aber Frequenzen von bis zu 3,0 GHz erreichen (2 Kerne: 2,7 GHz).

Haswell ist der Nachfolger der 2012 vorgestellten Ivy-Bridge-Architektur und soll vor allem mit höherer Performance und verbesserter Energieeffizienz punkten. So wurde sowohl die Sprungvorhersage optimiert als auch die Zahl der Ausführungseinheiten erhöht, wodurch die Pro-MHz-Leistung knapp 10 Prozent ansteigt. Neue Befehlssatzerweiterungen wie AVX2 und FMA sollen die Performance in darauf ausgelegten Anwendungen zusätzlich verbessern. Eine Besonderheit der ULV-Versionen ist die Integration des Chipsatzes auf das CPU-Package, um dadurch Leistungsaufnahme und Platzbedarf zu senken.

Die Performance des Core i7-4500U liegt entsprechend der gesteigerten Pro-MHz-Leistung in etwa auf dem Niveau des alten Core i7-3537U mit etwas höherer Taktrate. Unter Einsatz der neuen Befehlssätze wie AVX2 kann die Leistung aber auch deutlich besser ausfallen. Damit stehen nicht nur für Office- und Multimedia-Zwecke, sondern auch für anspruchsvolle Anwendungen ausreichende Reserven zur Verfügung.

Für die Grafikausgabe zeigt sich die im Prozessor integrierte Intel HD Graphics 4400 mit 20 EUs verantwortlich, die mit 200 - 1100 MHz taktet. Diese verspricht ein leichtes Performanceplus gegenüber der HD Graphics 4000, fällt aber deutlich gegenüber der HD Graphics 5000 (40 EUs) einiger anderer ULV-Modelle ab.

Gegenüber dem Vorgänger ist die maximale Leistungsaufnahme des i7-4500U auf 15 Watt (TDP) zurückgegangen, außerdem entfällt die zusätzliche Leistungsaufnahme des nunmehr bereits integrierten Chipsatzes. Damit ist die CPU für noch schlankere Ultrabooks ab etwa 11 Zoll geeignet.

Intel Core i7-7700HQ

Der Intel Core i7-7700HQ ist ein schneller Quad-Core-Prozessor für Notebooks auf Basis der Kaby-Lake-H-Architektur (7. Generation Core), der im Jänner 2017 auf der CES vorgestellt wurde. Er ist der Nachfolger des Core i7-6700HQ der Skylake Generation und wird im verbesserten 14nm+ Verfahren gefertigt und taktet dadurch um 200 MHz höher bei gleichem TDP. Die Architektur wurde nicht verändert, nur die Video-Engine erhielt ein Update in Kaby Lake (siehe unseren Kaby-Lake-Artikel). Im Vergleich zu den stärkeren Quad-Core CPUs der Kaby Lake Generation, bietet der 7700HQ nur 6 MB und nicht 8 MB Level 3 Cache.

Die integrierte Grafikeinheit hört nun auf den Namen Intel HD Graphics 630, welche sich jedoch bezüglich Architektur nicht von der 530er in Skylake Quads unterscheidet und maximal etwas höher getaktet wird.

Performance

Durch den 200 MHz höheren Takt (5,5 - 7,6% je nach Boost) erhöht sich die Performance der CPU in etwa auf das Niveau des Core i7-6970HQ (2,8 - 3,7 GHz jedoch mit 128 MB eDRAM).

Leistungsaufnahme

Entsprechend seiner TDP von 45 Watt ist der Chip vorrangig in größeren Notebooks ab etwa 15 Zoll zu finden. Optional kann die TDP auch auf 35 Watt abgesenkt werden (cTDP down), was allerdings die Performance mindert.
