Der Intel Core i7-8550U ist ein sparsamer Quad-Core-SoC für Notebooks und Ultrabooks, der auf der Kaby-Lake-Architektur basiert und Ende August 2017 vorgestellt wurde. Er gehört zur Kaby-Lake-Refresh Generation und ist der direkte Nachfolger des Core i7-7500U bzw. i5-7260U, welche jedoch beide noch Dual-Core Prozessoren waren. Der i7-8550U bietet 4 Prozessorkerne mit 1,8 bis 4 GHz. Die integrierte Grafikkarte hört nun auf den Namen Intel UHD Graphics 620, unterscheidet sich jedoch von der Intel HD Graphics 620 der Vorgänger nicht. Weiters bietet die CPU noch einen integrierten DDR4-2400 / LPDDR3-2133 Dual-Channel-Speichercontroller sowie VP9- und H.265-Videode- und -encoder. Die Fertigung erfolgt weiterhin in einem 14-Nanometer-Prozess mit FinFET-Transistoren (14nm+).

Architektur

Im Vergleich mit Skylake hat Intel die zugrundeliegende Mikroarchitektur praktisch unverändert übernommen, sodass sich keine Unterschiede in der Pro-MHz-Leistung ergeben. Überarbeitet wurde lediglich die Speed-Shift-Technik zur schnelleren dynamischen Anpassung von Spannungen und Taktraten, zudem gestattet der gereifte 14-Nanometer-Prozess deutlich höhere Frequenzen und eine bessere Energieeffizienz als bislang.

Performance

Die Leistung des i7-8550U hängt stark vom konfigurierten TDP, wie lange der Boost laufen darf und von der Kühlung ab. Dadurch kann es zu einer hohen Schwankungsbreite kommen. Auf 15 Watt limitiert mit kurzem Boost erreicht die CPU z.B. 501 Punkte im Cinebench R15 Multi Test. Das derzeit schnellste von uns gemessene Notebook (Inspiron 17-7773) erreicht aber hier einen 23% höheren Wert. 

Bei längerfristiger Performance (längeres Rendern von Videos) kann sich diese Differenz noch weiter erhöhen. Im Durchschnitt bei kurzen Lastphasen erreicht der i7-8550U in unseren Tests die Performance eines Core i5-7440HQ - einem 35 Watt Prozessor.

Die Einzelkernperformance ist dank des hohen Turbo-Boost-Taktes hervorragend und schlägt ebenfalls die alten Dual-Core Vorgänger.

Grafikeinheit

Die integrierte Intel UHD Graphics 620 ist laut Intel identisch zur Intel HD Graphics 620 (z.B. im Core i5-7200U). Sie verfügt wie die alte HD Graphics 520 über 24 Ausführungseinheiten (EUs). Die Performance hängt stark vom verwendeten Arbeitsspeicher ab; mit schnellem DDR4-2133 im Dual-Channel-Betrieb kann sie sich mit einer dedizerten Nvidia GeForce 920M messen.

Anders als Skylake kann Kaby Lake nun auch H.265/HEVC im Main10-Profil mit 10 Bit Farbtiefe sowie Googles VP9-Codec in Hardware decodieren.

Leistungsaufnahme

Die Fertigung erfolgt weiterhin im verbesserten 14-Nanometer-Prozess (14nm+) mit FinFET-Transistoren. Der TDP ist weiterhin ULV-typisch mit 15 Watt spezifiziert und kann je nach Einsatzzweck zwischen 7,5 und 25 Watt variiert werden.

Intel Pentium Gold 4415U

Der Intel Pentium Gold 4415U ist ein sparsamer Dual-Core-SoC auf Basis der Kaby-Lake-Architektur, der im 1. Quartal 2017 vorgestellt wurde. Die CPU wird hauptsächlich in Ultrabooks, aber auch gewöhnlichen Notebooks verbaut. Neben den zwei CPU-Kernen samt Hyper-Threading, die mit 2,3 GHz takten (kein Turbo Boost), integriert der Prozessor auch eine HD Graphics 610 Grafikeinheit sowie einen Dual-Channel-Speichercontroller (LPDDR3-1866/DDR4-2133/DDR3L-1600). Die Fertigung erfolgt in einem 14-Nanometer-Prozess mit FinFET-Transistoren.

Architektur

Performance

Dank Hyper-Threading-Support rückt der Pentium 4415U nahe an die preislich höher positionierte Core-i3-Serie heran und erreicht in etwa die Leistung des alten Core i3-4000M (Haswell 2.4 GHz Dual-Core). Damit stehen für alltägliche Anwendungen, aber auch viele anspruchsvollere Programme ausreichende Reserven bereit.

Grafikeinheit

Die integrierte Grafikeinheit namens Intel HD Graphics 610 repräsentiert die kleinste, auch "GT1" genannte Ausbaustufe der Kaby-Lake-GPU (Intel Gen. 9).

Leistungsaufnahme

Dank "Configurable TDP" kann die CPU ausgehend von den standardmäßigen 15 Watt auch mit einer TDP von 10 Watt (cTDP Down) betrieben werden, wodurch sich jedoch die Performance reduziert. Je nach Einstellung ist der Chip für schlanke Note- und Ultrabooks ab etwa 11 Zoll Bilddiagonale geeignet.

Der Intel Core i5-8350U ist ein sparsamer Quad-Core-SoC für Notebooks und Ultrabooks, der auf der Kaby-Lake-Architektur basiert und Ende August 2017 vorgestellt wurde. Er gehört zur Kaby-Lake-Refresh Generation und ist der direkte Nachfolger des Core i5-7300U, welcher jedoch noch ein Dual-Core Prozessor ist. Der i5-8350U ist der stärkste Core i5 Quad-Core der Y-Serie (zum Launch Ende 2017) und bietet 4 Prozessorkerne mit 1,7 bis 3,6 GHz. Laut Intel erreicht er durch die 2 zusätzlichen Kerne und höhere Turbo Boost Taktraten bis zu 40% mehr Leistung. Die integrierte Grafikkarte hört nun auf den Namen Intel UHD Graphics 620, unterscheidet sich jedoch von der Intel HD Graphics 620 der Vorgänger nicht. Weiters bietet die CPU noch einen integrierten DDR4-2400 / LPDDR§-2133 Dual-Channel-Speichercontroller sowie VP9- und H.265-Videode- und -encoder. Performance

Mit 1,7 bis 3,6 GHz taktet der Core i5-8350U beim maximalen Boost etwas höher als sein Vorgänger i5-7300U (2,6 - 3,5 GHz). Intel selbst spricht von Performancezuwächsen von bis zu 40%. Durch die beiden zusätzlichen Kerne, sollte dies bei Anwendungen die beide Kerne nutzen können, durchaus möglich sein. Dank des höheren Turbo Boost profitiert aber auch die Einzelkernleistung. Spannend ist jedoch ob und wie lange die Performance gehalten werden kann (Stichwort Throttling). Dies ist stark vom eingesetzten Kühlsystem der Laptops abhängig.

Grafikeinheit

Die integrierte Intel UHD Graphics 620 ist laut Intel identisch zur Intel HD Graphics 620 (z.B. im Core i5-7200U). Sie verfügt wie die alte HD Graphics 520 über 24 Ausführungseinheiten (EUs) und taktet etwas höher wie die Vorgängerkarten (300 - 1.100 versus 1.000 MHz). Die Performance hängt stark vom verwendeten Arbeitsspeicher ab; mit schnellem DDR4-2133 im Dual-Channel-Betrieb kann sie sich mit einer dedizerten Nvidia GeForce 920M messen.
