Die in den AMD A10-7850K, A10-7800 und A10 PRO-7850B Desktop APUs integrierte Grafikkarte nennt AMD schlicht AMD Radeon R7 Graphics. Intern hörte sie auf den Codenamen Spectre und basiert auf der GCN 1.1 (2.0) Architektur der Hawaii Desktop Grafikkarten, die jedoch für die HSA Kompatibilität noch abgeändert wurde. In den Topmodellen bietet die Grafikkarte die vollen 512 Grafikkerne (bzw 8 Compute Cores) die mit maximal 720 MHz getaktet werden (Idle 351 MHz). Ab der A10-7700K wird die gleich benannte AMD Radeon R7 nur noch mit 384 Shaderkernen angeboten.

Die GPU unterstützten DirectX 12 (FL 12_0). Eine Besonderheit ist die HSA Unterstützung der APU, wodurch Programmierer einfach zwischen CPU und GPU Kernen auswählen können.

Die Spieleleistung der integrierten Radeon R7 liegt im Schnitt bei unseren Benchmarks knapp vor der Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200 (im Schenker S413). Dies ist jedoch nicht eindeutig; je nach Spiel liegt mal die eine, mal die andere Grafikkarte vorne. Insgesamt kann die R7 jedoch in zwei mehr Spielen schnellere Frameraten auf den Bildschirm zaubern (Stand März 2014). In der Regel reicht die Performance, um eine Auflösung von 1.366 x 768 Pixeln und mittlere Details flüssig zu beschleunigen.

AMD Radeon R6 (Kaveri)

Die AMD Radeon R6 (Kaveri) ist eine integrierte Grafikeinheit einiger mobiler AMD Kaveri-APUs. Von den insgesamt 512 GCN-Shadereinheiten des Chips sind nur 384 Shader aktiviert. AMD spricht hierbei auch von 6 Compute Cores. Der maximale Kern- und Speichertakt hängt von der jeweiligen APU ab: So unterstützen die ULV-Modelle maximal DDR3-1600, während die SV-Modelle bis zu DDR3-1866 bieten.

Architektur und Features

Dank der neuen GCN-1.1-Architektur erreicht die GPU eine deutlich höhere Effizienz und Performance im Vergleich zu den VLIW-basierten Vorgängermodellen der Richland- und Trinity-Serie. Außerdem beherrscht die Grafikeinheit nun sowohl DirectX 12 (FL 12_0) als auch die AMD-eigene Mantle-API. Per OpenCL können verschiedene Anwendungen, beispielsweise Adobe Photoshop, zusätzlich beschleunigt werden.

Die überarbeitete Videoeinheit Kaveris beinhaltet den UVD 4.2 (Unified Video Decoder) sowie die VCE 2.0 (Video Codec Engine). Insbesondere im Zusammenhang mit dem H.264-Codec sind einige kleinere Verbesserungen eingeflossen. H.265 wird dagegen noch nicht vollständig in Hardware unterstützt.

Performance

Durch die erheblichen Unterschiede bei Kern- und Speicher-Taktrate kann die Performance der Radeon R6 von Modell zu Modell sehr stark variieren. Während die schnellste Version im A10-7400P (max. 654 MHz) je nach Benchmark sogar mit einer dedizierten GeForce GT 730M konkurrieren kann, liegt die langsamere Variante im A10-7300 (max. 533 MHz) nur knapp auf dem Niveau einer GeForce GT 720M. Dementsprechend können Spiele des Jahres 2014 in niedrigen bis mittleren Einstellungen und 1.024 x 768 oder 1.366 x 768 Pixeln flüssig dargestellt werden.

Leistungsaufnahme

Die Leistungsaufnahme der gesamten Kaveri-APU liegt bei 19 (ULV) beziehungsweise 35 Watt (SV). Damit kann der 28-Nanometer-Chip auch in schlanken bis mittelgroßen Notebooks eingesetzt werden.
