Der Apple M2 ist ein System on a Chip (SoC) von Apple für Notebooks. Apple nutzt den M2 in den Einstiegsgeräten (2022 MacBook Air und 2022 MacBook Pro 13). Er integriert wie der Apple M1 acht Prozessorkerne in zwei Cluster . Vier schnelle Performance-Kerne die nun auf 16 MB L2 Cache zurückgreifen können (M1 bot 12 MB) und mit bis zu 3,480 GHz takten und vier Effizienzkerne mit weiterhin 4MB L2 Cache und bis zu 2,4 GHz. Damit takten sie etwas höher als beim M1 (2,1 bzw. 3,2 GHz). Die Archtektur der Kerne sollte ähnlich zum Apple A15 (iPhone 13) mit Avalanche bzw. Blizzard Kernen sein.
Gemeinsam mit der integrierten 8 bzw. 10-Kern GPU kann die CPU auf bis zu 24 GB Unified Memory (128 Bit LPDDR5) zurückgreifen. Die Bandbreite wurde im Vergleich zum M1 um 50% erhöht auf 100 GB/s.
Laut Apple ist der M2 um 18% schneller bei gleichem Stromverbrauch. Bei unseren Tests erreicht das MacBook Pro 13 mit aktiver Kühlung die beworbenen 18% im Geekbench Multi-Test, in anderen etwas weniger (12-15%). Damit nähert es sich bereits dem M1 Pro mit 8 Kernen. In den Einzelkerntests ist der Vorsprung zum M1 geringer, kann aber z.B. den Ryzen 7 6800U schlagen. Die neuen Alder Lake Spitzen-CPUs (z.B. i7-1260P im Yoga 9i) sind aber schneller - aber auch stromhungriger. Der Core i5-1240P im Galaxy Book 2 Pro 13 mit ähnlichem TDP ist dem Apple M2 deutlich unterlegen. Im passiv gekühlten MacBook Air erwarten wir ähnliche Single-Core Leistungen, bei längeren Multi-Core Tests, wird das Gerät aber wahrscheinlich etwas schlechter abschneiden.
Zusätzlich zu CPU und GPU, integriert Apple auch eine verbesserte Neural Engine (+40% laut Apple) und 8k H.264, HEVC, ProRes-fähige Media Engine. Auch die Secure Enclave wurde verbessert.
Der Chip wird im "second generation" 5nm Prozess bei TSMC gefertigt (wahrscheinlich N5P) und ist weiterhin sehr Energieeffizient. Im Vergleich zum M1 stieg der Stromverbrauch jedoch leicht.
AMD Ryzen 5 5600H ► remove from comparison
Der AMD Ryzen 5 5600H ist ein Mobilprozessor für große Notebooks (z. B. Gaming Laptops) basierend auf die Cezanne Generation. Der SoC beinhaltet sechs Zen 3 Kerne (Hexa-Core CPU) welche mit bis zu 4,2 GHz getaktet werden (Turbo) und SMT / Hyperthreading (12 Threads) unterstützen. Der Chip wird im modernen 7 nm Prozess bei TSMC gefertigt und soll Anfang 2021 vorgestellt werden.
Die neue Zen 3 Microarchitektur bringt im Desktop laut AMD eine um 19 % höhere IPC (Instructions per Clock) Performance. In Anwendungs-Tests bei gleichem Takt waren es meist gegen 12 %, bei Spielen noch deutlich mehr.
Der SoC integriert neben den sechs Prozessorkernen noch eine Radeon RX Vega 7 Grafikkarte mit 6 CUs und bis zu 1800 MHz Takt, einen Dual-Channel DDR4 Speicherkontroller und 16 MB Level 3 Cache.
Der TDP ist weiterhin von 35 - 54 Watt konfigurierbar (45 Watt Standard).
