Die Intel HD Graphics 500 ist eine Prozessorgrafikkarte der Mitte 2016 vorgestellten Apollo-Lake-Generation (z.B. Celeron N3450 und Celeron N3350). Zwar glänzt die GPU mit einer sehr niedrigen Leistungsaufnahme, allerdings siedelt sich die Performance nur im untersten Low-End-Segment an und ist für neuere Spiele zumeist nicht ausreichend. Als teildeaktivierte Variante der Apollo-Lake-GPU verfügt die HD Graphics 500 nur über 12 Execution Units (HD Graphics 505: 18 EUs), die je nach Modell mit bis zu 650 oder 700 MHz takten. Technisch basiert die GPU auf der Intel-Gen9-Architektur, die auch bei der teureren Skylake-Serie zum Einsatz kommt.

Mangels eigenem Grafikspeicher oder eDRAM-Cache greift die HD Graphics 500 über das Interface des Prozessors auf den System-RAM zu (2x 64 Bit DDR3L-/LPDDR3-1866, LPDDR4-2400).

Performance

Die HD Graphics 500 dürfte sich noch knapp unterhalb der älteren Broadwell-Grafikeinheit HD Graphics (Broadwell) ansiedeln, sodass aktuelle Spiele (Stand 2016) nur in den seltensten Fällen und in sehr niedrigen Einstellungen flüssig dargestellt werden.

Features

Der überarbeitete Videodecoder decodiert nun auch H.265-/HEVC-Videos vollständig in Hardware und arbeitet dadurch deutlich effizienter als bislang. Die Bildausgabe auf bis zu drei Displays erfolgt über DP/eDP oder HDMI (4K vermutlich nur bei 30 Hz via HDMI 1.4).

Leistungsaufnahme

Die TDP des gesamten SoCs liegt bei standardmäßig bei 6 Watt, sodass die GPU vor allem in (oftmals passiv gekühlten) Netbooks oder schlanken Notebooks zu finden ist. Optional kann die TDP auch auf 4 Watt abgesenkt werden, wodurch allerdings die Performance sinkt.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680

Bei der NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 handelt es sich um eine DirectX-11.1-fähige High-End-Grafikkarte für Desktop-PCs. Sie basiert auf dem GK104-Chip der Kepler-Architektur (Strukturbreite: 28 nm) und enthält 1536 Shadereinheiten, auch CUDA-Cores genannt. Der Kerntakt wird unter Last nach Möglichkeit von 1006 auf maximal 1058 MHz erhöht. Der Speichertakt des 2048 MByte großen und mit 256 bit angebundenen GDDR5-VRAMs beträgt 1.500 MHz (I/O-Takt 3.000 MHz, Effektivtakt 6.000 MHz; Durchsatz: 192.2 GB/s).

Architektur

Kepler ist der Nachfolger der beliebten Fermi-Architektur, welche unter anderem  bei der GeForce-500-Reihe zum Einsatz kam. Der zugrunde liegende GK104-Chip verfügt über 8 SMX-Blöcke mit je 192 CUDA-Cores. Zwei SMX bilden zusammen mit zwei Polymorph-Engines und einer gemeinsamen Raster-Engine einen sogenannten GPC (Graphics Processing Cluster). Da die Shader keine eigene Takt-Domain mehr besitzen (Hot Clock), entspricht die Rechenleistung in etwa der Hälfte der Einheiten der Fermi-Architektur mit doppelter Taktrate. Diese Änderung ist einer der Gründe dafür, dass sich laut Nvidia die Energieeffizienz gegenüber dem Vorgänger verdoppelt hat. Auch die Tessellation-Leistung soll noch einmal verbessert worden sein.

Als weitere Neuerungen werden PCIe 3.0, der Turbo-Modus GPU Boost und die Kantenglättungsverfahren FXAA und TXAA unterstützt. Adaptive V-Sync soll bei hohen Frameraten nerviges Tearing verhindern. 

Leistung

Trotz der Namensverwandtschaft liegt die Performance deutlich über der mobilen GTX 680M. Jedes moderne Spiel (Stand 2013) wird auch in hohen Auflösungen und maximalen Details ruckelfrei dargestellt. Die Grafikpower reicht sogar für die stereoskopische 3D-Wiedergabe (3D Vision) und/oder mehrere Monitore.

Features

Das aktualisierte Featureset umfasst nun die Unterstützung von bis zu 4 aktiven Displays, die beispielsweise per DisplayPort 1.2 oder HDMI 1.4a mit Bildmaterial versorgt werden. HD-Audio-Formate wie Dolby True HD und DTS-HD lassen sich als Bitstream an einen geeigneten Receiver übertragen.

Der HD-Videoprozessor der fünften Generation (VP5) wurde vom GF119-Chip übernommen. Dieser kann die Formate MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264 und VC1/WMV9 bis zu einer Auflösung von 4k decodieren und somit den Prozessor entlasten. Auch zwei parallele Streams, zum Beispiel für Picture-in-Picture bei Blu-Rays, sind möglich. Eine weitere Neuerung ist die Integration eines dedizierten Videoencoders ähnlich Intels Quick Sync, der über die NVENC-API angesprochen werden kann.

Die Leistungsaufnahme gibt Nvidia mit 195 Watt an. Für die normale Variante benötigt man zwei 6-pin-Stromstecker.

Intel HD Graphics 520

Die Intel HD Graphics 520 (GT2) ist eine Prozessorgrafikkarte der im Sommer 2015 vorgestellten Skylake-Generation. Als Nachfolger der HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell) ist die HD Graphics 520 dabei in den ULV-Modellen der 15-Watt-Klasse zu finden. Die sogenannte GT2-Ausbaustufe der Skylake-GPU verfügt über 24 Execution Units (EUs), die je nach Modell mit bis zu 1.050 MHz takten.

Mangels eigenem Grafikspeicher oder eDRAM-Cache greift die HD Graphics 520 über das Interface des Prozessors auf den System-RAM zu (2x 64 Bit DDR3L-1600/DDR4-2133).

Performance

Die exakte Leistung der HD Graphics 520 hängt vom jeweiligen CPU-Modell ab, da sich Maximaltaktrate und Größe des L3-Caches leicht unterscheiden können. Zum anderen bestimmt auch der verwendete Speicher (DDR3/DDR4) die Performance.

Die höchste Leistung erreichen hochtaktende Core-i7-Ableger wie der Core i7-6600U. Je nach Spiel kann die HD 520 dann in etwa mit einer dedizierten GeForce 820M konkurrieren und aktuelle Spiele (Stand 2015) zumindest in niedrigen Einstellungen flüssig darstellen.

Features

Der überarbeitete Videodecoder decodiert nun auch H.265-/HEVC-Videos vollständig in Hardware und arbeitet dadurch deutlich effizienter als bislang. Die Bildausgabe erfolgt über DP 1.2/eDP 1.3 (max. 3.840 x 2.160 @ 60 Hz), wohingegen HDMI nur in der älteren Version 1.4a angeboten wird. Ein HDMI-2.0-Anschluss kann aber mittels Konverter von DisplayPort ergänzt werden. Maximal lassen sich drei Displays parallel angesteuern.

Leistungsaufnahme

Die HD Graphics 520 ist in ULV-Prozessoren der 15-Watt-Klasse zu finden und damit für schlanke Note- und Ultrabooks geeignet.
