Die Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti ist eine schnelle Desktop-Grafikkarte der Ampere-Generation und tritt die Nachfolge der GeForce RTX 2070 Super an. Sie nutzt den großen GA104-Chip mit 6.144 Shadern und 8 GB GDDR6 Grafikspeicher. Mit einer Leistungsaufnahme von 290 Watt braucht die GPU zwar viel Strom unter Last, die Energieeffizienz (Leistung pro Watt) konnte mit Ampere gegenüber Turing aber dennoch gesteigert werden.

Die NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M SLI ist eine mobile High-End Grafiklösung, welche im Frühjahr 2014 vorgestellt wurde. Sie basiert auf zwei GM107-Chips der Maxwell-Serie im SLI-Verbund und wird von TSMC in 28 nm produziert. Beide GTX-860M-Grafikkarten berechnen jeweils abwechselnd ein Bild (AFR), wodurch es zu sogenannten Mikrorucklern kommen kann (ungleichmäßige Abstände zwischen den Frames, dadurch spürbare Ruckler trotz flüssiger fps-Raten).

Alternativ dazu könnte es auch eine Version auf Basis des Kepler-Chips GK104 geben, die mit 1.152 Shader-Einheiten bei 797 MHz Taktrate zzgl. Boost daherkommt. Wir werden uns nachfolgend vorrangig auf die modernere GM107-/Maxwell-Version konzentrieren.

Architektur

Die Maxwell-Architektur des GM107-Chips wurde gegenüber der älteren Kepler-Generation kräftig überarbeitet, wobei der Fokus insbesondere auf der Steigerung der Energieeffizienz lag. Dafür hat Nvidia unter anderem die Shader-Cluster (SMM) umstrukturiert, die nunmehr nur noch 128 statt zuvor 192 ALUs integrieren. Jeder der beiden GM107 verfügt über 5 SMMs und damit 640 Shadereinheiten, 40 TMUs und 16 ROPs (128-Bit-Interface).

Zudem wurden die Scheduler modifiziert, was im Ergebnis zu deutlichen Energieeinsparungen und einer höheren Auslastung der Shader führen soll. Nvidia verspricht, dass ein Maxwell-SMM mit 128 ALUs 90 Prozent der Leistung eines Kepler-SMX mit 192 ALUs erreicht. Eine weitere Optimierung betrifft den stark vergrößerten L2-Cache (GM107: 2 MB), der einen Teil der Speicherzugriffe abfangen kann und damit den Einsatz eines relativ schmalen Speicherinterfaces gestattet.

GM107 unterstützt DirectX 12 weiterhin nur mit Feature Level 11.0.

Leistung

Im optimalen Fall erreicht der GPU-Verbund fast die doppelte Leistung einer einzelnen GeForce GTX 860M, die wiederum in etwa auf dem Level der GeForce GTX 770M liegt. Allerdings wird SLI nicht in jedem Spiel optimal unterstützt, sodass der mittlere Zugewinn mit 70 bis 80 Prozent Mehrleistung etwas niedriger ausfällt. Insgesamt liegt die Performance etwa zwischen einer GeForce GTX 680 (Desktop) und einer Radeon R9 280X (Desktop), was dem Niveau der GeForce GTX 880M entspricht. Damit können auch sehr anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele mit höchsten Details in FullHD-Auflösung flüssig dargestellt werden (Stand 2013). Bis auf wenige Ausnahmefälle bestehen zudem zusätzliche Reserven zur Aktivierung hoher Antialiasing-Stufen.

Features

GM107 integriert die sechste Generation der PureVideo HD Video-Engine (VP6). Die Performance beim Decodieren von H.264- und MPEG-2-Material soll abermals verbessert worden sein, zudem sind natürlich auch alle Features der Vorgänger (4K-Unterstützung, PiP, Videoencoder über NVENC-API) mit an Bord. HDMI 2.0 wird nicht unterstützt.

Weitere neue Features der GTX-800M-Serie, die jedoch auch von älteren Karten unterstützt werden, sind Battery Boost (längere Akkulaufzeit beim Spielen), Shadowplay (Aufzeichnung von Spiele-Videos) und Gamestream (Spiele-Streaming auf Shield-Konsole). Weitere Informationen dazu unter diesem Link.

Leistungsaufnahme

Die Leistungsaufnahme der GeForce GTX 860M bewegt sich inkl. Speicher in einer Größenordnung von etwa 60 Watt. Der SLI-Verbund aus zwei Karten verdoppelt diesen Wert auf rund 120 Watt. Somit ist die Karte nur für große und gut gekühlte Gaming-Notebooks geeignet. Bei geringer Last helfen zusätzliche Taktstufen dabei, Energie einzusparen; im Leerlauf kann die GPU mit Hilfe der Optimus-Technologie auch vollständig zugunsten der Prozessorgrafik deaktiviert werden.

Die Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Max-Q (für Laptops, GN20-E7 Max-Q) bezeichnet eine GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU mit Max-Q Technologien. Früher waren die Max-Q-Varianten die Stromsparversionen, mit der RTX 3000 Serie kann jedoch jede TGP-Variante mit Max-Q Technologien ausgestattet werden.
