Die Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 SLI für Notebooks (nicht zu verwechseln mit der langsameren GeForce GTX 980M SLI) ist eine High-End-Grafiklösung basierend auf zwei GTX-980-Karten im SLI-Modus. Beide Grafikkarten nutzen wie im Desktop den GM204-Chip mit vollen 2.048 CUDA-Kernen und identischen Taktraten (Basis und Boost). Die Chips selbst wurden selektiert für niedrige Stromverbräuche. 

Beide Grafikkarten rendern jeweils abwechselnd ein Bild (AFR), wodurch sich die Leistung gegenüber einer einzelnen GPU im Optimalfall fast verdoppelt. Allerdings kann es durch ungleichmäßige Abstände zwischen zwei Bildern zu spürbaren (Mikro-)Rucklern kommen, obwohl die fps-Raten in einem flüssigen Bereich liegen. Der Grafikspeicher verdoppelt sich durch den Einsatz beider Karten nicht, da bei beiden Grafikkarten die selben Daten gespeichert werden. Mit 8 GB pro Karte ist jedoch ausreichend GDDR5 verbaut.

Die Performance der GTX 980 SLI ist stark abhängig vom Treibersupport und den Spielen. In unseren Tests des MSI GT80S konnte sich der SLI-Verbund in Full HD bzw 4K eindeutig an die Spitze der Ende 2015 in Notebooks eingesetzten Grafiklösungen setzen. Die 980M SLI ist 17% langsamer und die einzelne 980 26%. Damit ist genug Leistung auch für 4K und hohe Details vorhanden. Leider gibt es mit SLI und Crossfire auch immer wieder Probleme (wie Microruckler und Abstürze, siehe GT80S Test).

Die Features der mobilen GTX 980 entsprechen dem Desktop-Counterpart. Daher unterstützt sie DirectX 12 (Feature Level 12_1) und noch nicht die neue H.265 Videoengine in der Desktop GTX 950.

Beim Stromverbrauch setzt die "GTX 980 für Notebooks" neue Rekorde in einem Notebook. Laut Nvidia bleibt der TDP der Referenzlösung bei 165 Watt wie bei der Desktop Grafikkarte. Im SLI-Verbund verdoppelt sich der Stromverbrauch.

 

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 6GB Laptop GPU

Die Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 6 GB Laptop GPU (oder Mobile, NVIDIA_DEV.2583, GN20-P0-R 6GB, 3050 Refresh) ist der Refresh der RTX 3050 mit 4GB und bietet neben dem größeren Grafikspeicher auch mehr Shader (2.560 Kerne = +25% wie die RTX 3050 Ti). Dafür wurde der Speicherbus von 128 Bit auf 96 Bit reduziert.

Wie üblich wird es verschiedene Varianten mit einem TGP von 35 - 50 (ehemals Max-Q) und 60 - 80 Watt geben. Diese takten von 713 - 1530 (Basistakt) bis 1058 - 1740 (Boost) und bieten dementsprechend eine unterschiedliche Performance.

Die durchschnittliche Leistung sollte etwas oberhalb der alten RTX 3050 (4GB) Laptop GPU liegen und knapp hinter der RTX 3050 Ti.

Der GA107 Chip bietet 3.072 FP32 ALUs wovon die Hälfte auch INT32 Befehle ausführen können (also 1.536 INT32 ALUs). Bei Turing konnten noch alle Shader FP32 oder INT32 ausführen. Die Raytracing und Tensor Kerne auf dem Chip wurden laut Nvidia ebenfalls verbessert. Weiters integriert der Ampere Chip einen Hardware Video-Encoder (NVENC 5. Generation für H.264 und H.265) und Decoder (7. Generation für zahlreiche Formate inklusive AV1).

Der GA107 Chip wird bei Samsung im 8nm (8N) Verfahren welches mit dem 7nm Verfahren von TSMC nicht ganz mithalten kann (z.B. von AMD genutzt, aber auch für den professionellen GA100 Ampere Chip).

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 (Laptop)

Die Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 für Notebooks (manchmal auch GTX 990M bezeichnet, nicht zu verwechseln mit der GeForce GTX 980M) ist eine High-End-Grafikkarte basierend auf die Desktop GTX 980. Sie nutzt den selben GM204 Chip mit ebenfalls 2.048 CUDA-Kernen und gleichen Taktraten (Basis und Boost). Die Chips selbst wurden selektiert für niedrige Stromverbräuche. 

Die Performance der GTX 980 ist abhängig von der Kühllösung im Notebook, da diese entscheidet wie lange der Boost Takt gehalten werden kann. Auch können von den Notebookhersteller etwas höhere Boost-Taktraten gewählt werden und Nvidia unterstützt auch das einfache Übertakten des Grafikchips per Tool. Im Referenzdesign soll die GTX 980 jedoch eine vergleichbare Leistung wie die Desktop GTX 980 bringen. Daher ist die Grafikkarte derzeit (Sept. 2015) die schnellste Single-Chip-Grafiklösung für Notebooks. Die mobile GeForce GTX 980M kann deutlich abgehängt werden.

Die Features der mobilen GTX 980 entsprechen dem Desktop Counterpart. Daher unterstützt sie DirectX 12 (Feature Level 12_1) und noch nicht die neue H.265 Videoengine in der Desktop GTX 950.

Beim Stromverbrauch setzt die "GTX980 für Notebooks" neue Rekorde in einem Notebook. Laut Nvidia bleibt der TDP der Referenzlösung bei 165 Watt wie bei der Desktop Grafikkarte. Mit Übertaktungsspielraum für die OEMs sind jedoch bis zu 200 Watt möglich. In den Clevo Barebones werden z.b. Varianten mit 180 bzw. 200 Watt TDP eingesetzt. Daher kann die GTX 980 nur in sehr große Notebooks mit ausgeklügelten Kühlsystemen verbaut werden. Battery Boost wird weiterhin unterstützt und soll vergleichbare Ergebnisse wie bei einer GTX 980M bringen.
