Die NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M ist eine DirectX-12-Grafikkarte für Notebooks der absoluten High-End-Klasse, die im März 2014 als neues Topmodell des Herstellers vorgestellt wurde. Genau wie die ältere GeForce GTX 780M basiert die 880M auf dem GK104-Chip (28 nm) der Kepler-Architektur, taktet jedoch rund 15 Prozent höher auf 954 MHz (zzgl. Boost). Als Grafikspeicher kommt GDDR5-RAM (8 GB, 256 Bit Interface, 5.000 MHz Effektivtakt) zum Einsatz.

Architektur

Der GK104 verfügt als Kepler-Chip über 8 Shader-Blöcke mit je 192 CUDA Cores, die vom Hersteller mit dem Kürzel SMX bezeichnet werden. Bei der 880M sind alle 8 aktiviert. Zwei SMX bilden zusammen mit zwei Polymorph Engines und einer gemeinsamen Raster Engine einen sogenannten GPC (Graphics Processing Cluster).

Insgesamt verfügt die GTX 880M so über 1.536 Shader-Einheiten, 128 TMUs und 32 ROPs an einem 256-Bit-Speicherinterface. Die Anbindung erfolgt über PCIe 3.0.

Leistung

Entsprechend der höheren Kerntaktrate steigt die Rechenleistung gegenüber der GTX 780M um gut 15 Prozent. Gleichzeitig stagniert aber die Speicherbandbreite, sodass der durchschnittliche Leistungsgewinn etwas geringer ausfällt. Unsere Benchmarks zeigen eine Performance-Steigerung von etwas mehr als 10 Prozent, was die GTX 880M zur schnellsten mobilen Grafikkarte im Frühjahr 2014 macht. Auch extrem anspruchsvolle Spiele wie Thief, Battlefield 4 oder Assassin´s Creed IV können in höchsten Details und FullHD-Auflösung flüssig dargestellt werden.

Features

Das Featureset entspricht den Keplerkarten der GeForce-GTX-700M-Serie. Bis zu 4 aktive Displays (mit Optimus u.U. weniger) sind mit der GTX 880M möglich, die mit einer maximalen Auflösung von 3840 x 2160 Pixeln zum Beispiel über DisplayPort 1.2 oder HDMI 1.4a angebunden werden können. HD-Audio-Formate wie Dolby True HD und DTS-HD lassen sich als Bitstream an einen geeigneten Receiver senden. Wie in der Vergangenheit kann jedoch auch weiterhin 3D Vision nicht mit Optimus-Unterstützung kombiniert werden.

Der PureVideo HD Videoprozessor der fünften Generation (VP5) kann die Formate MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264 und VC1/WMV9 bis zu einer Auflösung von 4k decodieren und somit den Prozessor entlasten. Auch zwei parallele Streams, beispielsweise für Picture-in-Picture bei einer Blu-Ray, sind möglich. Eine weitere Besonderheit ist die Integration eines dedizierten Videoencoders ähnlich Intels Quick Sync, der über die NVENC-API angesprochen werden kann.

Weitere neue Features der GTX-800M-Serie, die jedoch auch von älteren Karten unterstützt werden, sind Battery Boost (längere Akkulaufzeit beim Spielen), Shadowplay (Aufzeichnung von Spiele-Videos) und Gamestream (Spiele-Streaming auf Shield-Konsole). Weitere Informationen dazu unter diesem Link.

Leistungsaufnahme

Die Leistungsaufnahme der GeForce GTX 880M sollte inkl. MXM Board und Speicher im Bereich der GTX 780M oder knapp darüber liegen (über 100 Watt). Die hohe Abwärme erlaubt den Einsatz nur in großen und schweren Notebooks. Bei geringer Last helfen zusätzliche Taktstufen dabei, Energie einzusparen, im Leerlauf kann die GPU mit Hilfe der Optimus-Technologie zugunsten der Prozessorgrafik auch vollständig deaktiviert werden.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060

Die Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 ist eine High-End Desktop Grafikkarte mit 12 GB Videospeicher. Im Januar wurde diese Grafikkarte präsentiert, wenngleich die Verfügbarkeit nur bedingt befriedigt werden konnte. Die GeForce RTX 3060 ist die kleinste Version der neuen RTX 3000 Serie, die nun mit der Ampere-Architektur Turing komplett abgelöst hat. Die GPU verfügt über 3.584 Shadereinheiten / Kerne und basiert auf dem GA106-Chip. Der VRAM fällt mit 12-GB-GDDR6-Speicher üppig aus.

Features

Der GA106-Chip wird in 8nm gefertigt und bietet weiterhin die bekannten Features, wie DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) und Real Time Ray Tracing. Allerdings hat Nvidia hier stark nachgebessert um die Leistung bei Nutzung dieser Features nochmals deutlich zu steigern.

Performance

Die Performance der GeForce RTX 3060 liegt etwas über dem Niveau einer Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070. Damit ordnet sich die RTX 3060 im unteren High-End-Segment ein und kann alle modernen Spiele der Jahre 2020 und 2021 in hohen Einstellungen und in 1.080p flüssig darstellen. 

Leistungsaufnahme

Die Leistungsaufnahme der GeForce RTX 3060 wird vom Hersteller mit 170 Watt beziffert und liegt damit etwas über dem Vorgängermodell (GeForce RTX 2060 160 Watt). Im Vergleich zur ähnlich schnellen Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, ist der Stromverbrauch jedoch etwas geringer. Die Leistung pro Watt konnte somit nochmals gesteigert werden.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU

Die Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Mobile (NVIDIA_DEV.2583, GN20-P1) ist die zweit-kleinste Variante der RTX 3000 Serie und basiert auf den GA107 Ampere Chip. Sie bietet 2560 CUDA-, 20 Raytracing und 80 Tensor-Kerne. Der Speicherbus ist 128 Bit breit und unterstützt 4 GB GDDR6 dedizierten Grafikspeicher. Die Taktung und damit Leistung ist abhängig von der Variante (35 - 80 Watt TGP).

Die Leistung liegt nach ersten Informationen zwischen GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q und GTX 1660 Ti. Damit reicht die Performance für Full HD Gaming und hohe Detailstufen in anspruchsvollen Spielen. Für Raytracing Effekte reicht die Leistung kaum aus, jedoch können die Tensor-Kerne via DLSS in manchen Spielen zu einer höheren Leistung helfen.

Der GA107 Chip bietet 3.072 FP32 ALUs wovon die Hälfte auch INT32 Befehle ausführen können (also 1.536 INT32 ALUs). Bei Turing konnten noch alle Shader FP32 oder INT32 ausführen. Die Raytracing und Tensor Kerne auf dem Chip wurden laut Nvidia ebenfalls verbessert. Weiters integriert der Ampere Chip einen Hardware Video-Encoder (NVENC 5. Generation für H.264 und H.265) und Decoder (7. Generation für zahlreiche Formate inklusive AV1).

Der GA107 Chip wird bei Samsung im 8nm (8N) Verfahren welches mit dem 7nm Verfahren von TSMC nicht ganz mithalten kann (z.B. von AMD genutzt, aber auch für den professionellen GA100 Ampere Chip).
