Die Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 SLI (Laptop) bezeichnet einen SLI-Verbund aus zwei High-End GeForce GTX 1070 Grafikkarten. Die GPUs nutzen denselben GP104-Chip mit 2.048 CUDA-Kernen wie das Notebook-Modell. Beide Karten rendern jeweils abwechselnd ein Bild (AFR), wodurch sich die Leistung gegenüber einer einzelnen GPU im Optimalfall fast verdoppelt. Der je 8 GB große Grafikspeicher verdoppelt sich durch den Einsatz beider Karten nicht, da jeweils die selben Daten gespeichert werden.

Features

Der GP104-Chip wird in einem 16nm-FinFET-Prozess bei TSMC gefertigt und bietet eine Reihe neuer Features, unter anderem Support für DisplayPort 1.4 (ready), HDMI 2.0b, HDR, Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP) sowie verbessertes H.265 Video De- und Encoding (PlayReady 3.0). Performance

Die Performance der GTX 1070 SLI ist stark abhängig vom Treibersupport und den Spielen. Im Optimalfall wird die Performance einer einzelnen GTX 1070, wie schon bei den Vorgängern, fast verdoppelt, in anderen Fällen kann der Verbund auch deutlich schlechter oder gar nicht skalieren. Des Weiteren können mehr oder weniger ausgeprägte Mikroruckler die gefühlte Performance beeinträchtigen. Dennoch lassen sich die meisten Spiele des Jahres 2016 in maximalen Einstellungen und 4K-Auflösung flüssig darstellen.

Hinter dem nochmals rund 30 bis 35 Prozent schnelleren SLI-Verbund zweier GeForce-GTX-1080-Karten stellt die GTX 1070 SLI im Jahr 2016 die zweitschnellste Notebook-Grafiklösung auf dem Markt dar.

Leistungsaufnahme

Im SLI-Verbund verdoppelt sich der Stromverbrauch gegenüber einer einzelnen GTX 1070, sodass beide Karten zusammen vermutlich etwa 220 bis 240 Watt aufnehmen dürften. Aus diesem Grund ist die Grafiklösung nur in sehr großen und schweren Gaming-Notebooks zu finden.

 

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M

Die NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M ist eine DirectX-11-Grafikkarte für Notebooks der unteren High-End-Klasse, die im Januar 2015 vorgestellt wurde. Sie basiert auf dem in 28 Nanometern gefertigten Maxwell-Grafikchip GM204 (später GM206), der auch bei den Top-Modellen GeForce GTX 980M und GTX 970M zum Einsatz kommt. Die von Nvidia spezifizierten Taktraten liegen bei 924 MHz (Boost bis 950 MHz) für die GPU sowie 1.250 MHz (5.000 MHz effektiv) für den bis zu 4 GB großen GDDR5-Speicher.

Anfang 2016 wird eine weitere 965M (früher als 965M Ti gehandelt) mit höheren Taktraten (935 MHz Basis - 1151 Turbo) basierend auf den GM206 Chip mit dem Codenamen N16E-GR eingeführt werden. Diese ist in unseren Spielebenchmarks (maximale Detailstufe) etwa 12% schneller als die Vorgängergeneration (in diversen Notebooks, getestet mit einem MSI GE72 Presample). Der spezifizierte TDP bleibt jedoch mit 50 Watt auf dem Niveau der 960M und ist mit dieser Pin-kompatibel. Theoretisch unterstützt der GM206 auch HDMI 2.0, jedoch muss dies vom Notebook auch umgesetzt werden.

Architektur

Genau wie der Mittelklasse-Chip GM107 (z.B. GeForce GTX 860M) basiert auch GM204 auf Nvidias neuer Maxwell-Architektur, die die bisherige Kepler-Generation ablöst. Zur Steigerung der Auslastung und Energieeffizienz hat Nvidia unter anderem die sogenannten Streaming Multiprocessors (SMM) umstrukturiert, die nunmehr je 128 Shader-Einheiten und 8 TMUs integrieren. Je vier SMMs bilden einen GPC, insgesamt 4 GPCs sind im GM204 verbaut. Im Falle der GeForce GTX 970M hat Nvidia jedoch 8 der insgesamt 16 SMMs deaktiviert, sodass nur 1.024 Shader-ALUs und 64 TMUs genutzt werden können. Hinzu kommen 32 ROPs, organisiert in zwei Clustern à 16 Einheiten.

Das Speicherinterface besitzt eine Breite von 128 Bit (2x 64 Bit) und soll dank eines verbesserten Komprimierungs-Algorithmus eine ausreichend schnelle Anbindung an den GDDR5-Speicher gewährleisten. Hinzu kommen stark vergrößerte L1- (96 KB pro SMM) und L2-Caches (2 MB), die den Bandbreitenbedarf senken.

Obwohl GM107 und GM204 beide zur Maxwell-Generation zählen, weist der jüngere GM204 einige zusätzliche Besonderheiten und Überarbeitungen auf. Dies betrifft zum einen eine verbesserte Polymorph-Engine in den SMMs, zum anderen aber auch die erstmalige Unterstützung von DirectX 12 mit Feature Level 12_1. 

Leistung

Trotz ihrer deutlich niedrigeren Speicherbandbreite und der geringeren Shaderanzahl erreicht die GeForce GTX 965M eine Performance, die in etwa mit der älteren GeForce GTX 870M vergleichbar ist. Damit besitzt die Grafikkarte genügend Leistungsreserven, um auch anspruchsvolle Spiele in hohen Details und FullHD-Auflösung flüssig darzustellen. Zusätzliche Qualitätsfeatures wie Kantenglättung und anisotrope Filterung werden in einigen Titeln ebenfalls bewältigt. (Stand 2015).

Features

Das Featureset entspricht zu großen Teilen dem der GeForce-GTX-800M-Serie. Bis zu 4 aktive Displays (mit Optimus u.U. weniger) sind mit der GTX 965M möglich, die mit einer maximalen Auflösung von 3840 x 2160 Pixeln und 60 Hz zum Beispiel über DisplayPort 1.2 oder HDMI 2.0 (kein HDCP bei 4K) angebunden werden können. HD-Audio-Formate wie Dolby True HD und DTS-HD lassen sich als Bitstream an einen geeigneten Receiver senden. Wie in der Vergangenheit kann jedoch auch weiterhin 3D Vision nicht mit Optimus-Unterstützung kombiniert werden.

Der aktualisierte Videoprozessor VP6 kann nicht nur gängige Formate wie H.264, sondern ab sofort auch H.265 bis zu einer Auflösung von 4K decodieren und encodieren (per NVENC-API). Auch mehrere parallele Streams, beispielsweise für Picture-in-Picture bei einer Blu-Ray, sind möglich.

Weitere Features der GTX-900M-Serie, die jedoch teils auch von älteren Karten unterstützt werden, sind Battery Boost (längere Akkulaufzeit beim Spielen), Shadowplay (Aufzeichnung von Spiele-Videos, bis zu 4Kp60 und 130 Mbit/s) und Gamestream (Spiele-Streaming auf Shield-Konsole). Weitere Informationen dazu unter diesem Link.

Leistungsaufnahme

Die Leistungsaufnahme der GeForce GTX 965M sollte inkl. MXM Board und Speicher deutlich unter der älteren GTX 870M in einer Größenordnung von etwa 70 Watt liegen. In Anbetracht der vergleichbaren Performance und des identischen Fertigungsprozesses (28 Nanometer TSMC) kann dies als angemessen bezeichnet werden. Damit lässt sich die Grafikkarte auch in etwas schlankeren Gaming-Notebooks einsetzen.

Bei geringer Last helfen variable Taktraten der GTX 965M dabei, Energie einzusparen. Im Leerlauf kann die GPU mit Hilfe der Optimus-Technologie vollständig zugunsten der Prozessorgrafik deaktiviert werden.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q

Die Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 mit Max-Q Design ist eine mobile High-End-GPU der Pascal-Serie. Sie ist gedacht für dünne und leichte Notebook und je nach Kühlungsdesign etwa 10-15% langsamer als eine normale GTX 1060 für Laptops. Der Basistakt liegt mit 1063 - 1265 MHz deutlich unterhalb der normalen GTX 1060 (1506 MHz, mind. -16%) und auch der Boost erreicht mit 1341 - 1480 bei weitem nicht die 1708 MHz (mind. -13%) der regulären GTX 1060. Der Speichertakt ist jedoch gleich.

Im Vergleich zur normalen GTX 1060 gibt es noch weitere Unterschiede als den Takt. Der Treiber wurde auf Effizienz (und nicht Leistung) optimiert (nur für die Max-Q Modelle), optimierte Spannungswandler für 1V Betreib, high-end Kühlungsmethoden und eine 40 dB Grenze für die Lüfterlautstärke (mit Taktanpasssungen um dies jederzeit zu gewährleisten) zeichnen die Max-Q Variante aus.

Features

Der GP106-Chip wird in einem 16nm-FinFET-Prozess bei TSMC gefertigt und bietet eine Reihe neuer Features, unter anderem Support für DisplayPort 1.4 (ready), HDMI 2.0b, HDR, Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP) sowie verbessertes H.265 Video De- und Encoding (PlayReady 3.0). Der Stromverbrauch der Max-Q Variante ist deutlich reduziert und beträgt je nach Laptopmodell zwischen 60 und 70 Watt (TGP).
