Die Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 mit Max-Q Design ist eine mobile High-End-GPU der Pascal-Serie. Sie ist gedacht für dünne und leichte Notebook und je nach Kühlungsdesign etwa 10-15% langsamer als eine normale GTX 1060 für Laptops. Der Basistakt liegt mit 1063 - 1265 MHz deutlich unterhalb der normalen GTX 1060 (1506 MHz, mind. -16%) und auch der Boost erreicht mit 1341 - 1480 bei weitem nicht die 1708 MHz (mind. -13%) der regulären GTX 1060. Der Speichertakt ist jedoch gleich.

Im Vergleich zur normalen GTX 1060 gibt es noch weitere Unterschiede als den Takt. Der Treiber wurde auf Effizienz (und nicht Leistung) optimiert (nur für die Max-Q Modelle), optimierte Spannungswandler für 1V Betreib, high-end Kühlungsmethoden und eine 40 dB Grenze für die Lüfterlautstärke (mit Taktanpasssungen um dies jederzeit zu gewährleisten) zeichnen die Max-Q Variante aus.

Features

Der GP106-Chip wird in einem 16nm-FinFET-Prozess bei TSMC gefertigt und bietet eine Reihe neuer Features, unter anderem Support für DisplayPort 1.4 (ready), HDMI 2.0b, HDR, Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP) sowie verbessertes H.265 Video De- und Encoding (PlayReady 3.0). Der Stromverbrauch der Max-Q Variante ist deutlich reduziert und beträgt je nach Laptopmodell zwischen 60 und 70 Watt (TGP).

AMD Radeon RX Vega 11

Die AMD Radeon RX Vega 11 ist eine integrierte Grafikkarte in den Ryzen APUs. Anfangs ist die höchste Ausbaustufe nur in den Anfang 2018 vorgestellten Ryzen Desktop APUs erhältlich (z.B. Ryzen 5 2400G). Die GPU basiert auf die Vega Architektur (5. Generation GCN) und bietet 11 CUs (= 704 Shader) mit bis zu 1240 MHz.

Die Vega Architektur bietet einige Verbesserungen zur Polaris Generation und unterstützt nun z.B. DirectX 12 Feature Level 12_1. Mehr Informationen dazu finden Sie in unserem Raven Ridge Architekturartikel.

Die theoretische Leistung sollte vergleichbar mit einer dedizierten Radeon R9 M280X sein (3DMark Fire Strike laut AMD). In Spielen kann der fehlende dedizierte Grafikspeicher zum Flaschenhals werden und dadurch zu einer reduzierten Leistung führen. Aktuelle Spiele sollten dadurch in niedrigsten Details flüssig spielbar sein.

Der Stromverbrauch ist dank 14nm Prozess und ausgeklügelten Stromsparmechanismen relativ gering, durch die 65 Watt TDP Einstufung aber wohl deutlich höher als bei den mobilen APUs (15 Watt).

AMD Radeon Pro WX Vega M GL

Die AMD Radeon WX Vega M GL  ist die integrierte Grafikkarte in den schwächeren Intel Kaby-Lake-G SoCs, wie dem Core i7-8706G. Sie entspricht der Consumer Variante Radeon RX Vega M GL in den gleich genannten CPUs jedoch mit professionellen Treibern. Die AMD Radeon Pro (ehemals FirePro) Serie ist das Gegenstück zur Quadro Serie von Nvidia und bietet zertifizierte Treiber für professionelle 3D Anwendungen (CAD und DCC). Durch einige freigeschaltene Features und Optimierungen ist die Performance in derartigen Programmen dadurch deutlich besser als bei Consumer Radeon Grafikchips.

Die Gragfikkarte befindet sich direkt auf dem selben Package wie der Kaby-Lake Prozessor und 4 GB HBM2 Grafikspeicher. Die Treiber werden von Intel veröffentlicht, sind jedoch anscheinend nur leicht modifizierte AMD Treiber. Daher ist die langfristige Treiberversorgung etwas fraglich.

Die Vega M GL nutzt 20 CUs (1280 Shader) bei einer Taktrate von 931 bis 1011 MHz (Boost). Anscheinend ist die Grafikkarte eine Mischung aus Polaris (Shader?) und Vega (zumindest dem Speicherkontroller). Nähere Informationen gibt es nicht, jedoch gibt sich die GPU als Polaris 22 aus und unterstützt auch nicht die selben DirectX 12 Features wie die Vega Desktop Grafikkarten. Der Stromverbrauch sollte ähnlich einer dedizierten Vega Mobile GPU sein, wobei die Kaby-Lake-G Kombination eventuell durch eine gemeinsame Stromversorgung effizienter arbeiten kann.
