Nach ersten Benchmarks ist die GPU im SD 8 Gen2 die schnellste Grafikkarte für Smartphones und kann auch die iGPU im Apple A16 (iPhone 14 Pro Serie) schlagen. Qualcomm gibt eine 25% höhere Performance im Vergleich zur Adreno 730 (Snapdragon 8 Gen 1) an.
Die GPU unterstützt Hardware-Accelerated Ray Tracing und einen Game Post Processing Accelerator (Bloom, Depth of Field, Motion Blur wird beschleunigt). Eine weitere Neuerung ist die Unterstützung für Vulkan 1,3.
Der Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 wird im modernen 4nm Prozess bei TSMC gefertigt.
Qualcomm Adreno 680
► remove from comparisonDie Qualcomm Adreno 680 ist eine im Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx ARM-SoC integrierte Grafikeinheit für Windows-Notebooks und Tablets. Der Chip soll ab Mitte/Ende 2019 erhältlich sein. Architekturell ist die GPU ähnlich zum Adreno 640. Laut Qualcomm 2x schneller als die alte Adreno 630 im Snapdragon 850 für Windows Laptops bei 60% verbesserter Effizienz.
Die Leistung soll verleichbar mit einer Intel UHD Graphics 620 sein, jedoch nur bei nativ für ARM64 kompilierten Spielen und Programmen. Im Emulator laufen nur 32-Bit-Applikationen (keine 64-Bit für AMD/Intel kompilierte) und mit einem deutlichen Geschwindigkeitsnachteil.

Das dazugehörige SoC (System-on-a-Chip) wurde im November 2021 vorgestellt und ist in vielen Android-basierten High-End-Produkten des Jahres 2022 zu finden.
Qualcomm verspricht gegenüber dem Vorgänger Adreno 660 ein Leistungsplus von bis zu 30 Prozent sowie eine um 25 Prozent verringerte Leistungsaufnahme. Die Geschwindigkeit der Vulkan-API soll sogar um bis zu 60 Prozent verbessert worden sein.
Bei den technischen Daten geht Qualcomm nicht sehr tief in die Details, spricht jedoch von 30 Prozent mehr ALUs (Arithmetic Logic Unit) sowie Textureinheiten (TMU, Texture Mapping Unit) gegenüber dem Vorgänger. Die Taktrate soll über 800 MHz erreichen.
Die Adreno 730 unterstützt alle gängigen Android-APIs und ist bereits auf den Einsatz mit der Unreal-5-Engine vorbereitet.
