Mit einigen Monaten Verspätung und nur knapp vor Nvidias eigener Dual-GPU-Lösung geht heute AMDs Radeon HD 6990 als Flaggschiff mit zwei GPUs an den Start. Spiele dominiert die neue Karte mit Leichtigkeit – aber Geschwindigkeit ist nicht alles...

Fazit:

In Anbetracht der fast schon peinlichen Lüfterabstufung, mehrerer Anläufe bei CrossFire-Profilen, der Treiber-Probleme und der allgemeinen und frustrierenden Zurückhaltung darüber zu reden, wie und zu welchem Preis man die Radeon HD 6990 überhaupt an den Mann bringen will, beschleicht uns das Gefühl, dass AMD sich mit diesem Launch zu sehr beeilt hat. Klar, aus Sicht des Marketings ist das durchaus nachvollziehbar: Lieber stellt man heute die schnellste Karte der Welt vor uns lässt sich möglicherweise morgen überholen, als nächste Woche mit der zweitschnellsten Karte antreten zu müssen. Was bleibt ist ein Flaggschiff-Produkt, das zweifelsohne extrem schnell ist. Wäre Performance unser einziges Kriterium, dann wäre diese Karte das Nonplusultra. Wie die Dinge stehen, sind Hitze und Lautstärke die größten Feinde dieser Karte, ähnlich wie es damals bei Nvidias GeForce GTX 480 der Fall war.
