Der Intel Core i7-4870HQ ist ein High-End Quad-Core Prozessor auf Basis der Haswell-Architektur, der im dritten Quartal 2014 vorgestellt wurde. Dank Hyperthreading können die 4 Kerne gleichzeitig bis zu 8 Threads bearbeiten. Die in 22 Nanometer gefertigte CPU taktet mit 2,5 GHz, kann per Turbo Boost aber Frequenzen von bis zu 3,7 GHz erreichen (4 Kerne: 3,5 GHz, 2 Kerne: 3,6 GHz). Eine Besonderheit ist die schnelle integrierte GT3e-Grafikeinheit mit eigenem eDRAM-Speicher (128 MB, 77 mm², on-Package, 102 GB/s).

Architektur

Haswell ist der Nachfolger der 2012 vorgestellten Ivy-Bridge-Architektur und soll vor allem mit höherer Performance und verbesserter Energieeffizienz punkten. So wurde sowohl die Sprungvorhersage optimiert als auch die Zahl der Ausführungseinheiten erhöht, wodurch die Pro-MHz-Leistung um etwa 5 bis 10 Prozent gesteigert werden konnte. Neue Befehlssatzerweiterungen wie AVX2 und FMA sollen die Performance in darauf ausgelegten Anwendungen zusätzlich verbessern.

Performance

Dank der gestiegenen Pro-MHz-Leistung erreicht der Core i7-4870HQ in etwa das Level des Core i7-3920XM auf Ivy-Bridge-Basis. Dies entspricht knapp dem Niveau des etwas höher taktenden Core i7-4810MQ (Haswell, GT2, kein eDRAM). Je nach Ausnutzung des Turbo-Boost-Spielraumes kann es hier jedoch von Notebook zu Notebook kleine Unterschiede geben. Auch anspruchsvollste Anwendungen meistert der i7-4870HQ ohne Schwierigkeiten.

Grafikeinheit

Für die Grafikausgabe zeigt sich die im Prozessor integrierte Iris Pro Graphics 5200 ("GT3e") mit 40 Execution Units verantwortlich, die mit 200 - 1200 MHz taktet. Die Iris Pro verspricht ein deutliches Performanceplus gegenüber der HD Graphics 4600 anderer Haswell-CPUs und erreicht sogar das Leistungsniveau dedizierter Mittelklasse-Grafikkarten (z.B. GeForce GT 740M).

Leistungsaufnahme

Die TDP von 47 Watt schließt neben den CPU-Kernen auch die Grafikeinheit, die Northbridge inklusive Speichercontroller sowie Teile der Spannungswandler ein. Damit ist die CPU lediglich für große Notebooks ab 15 Zoll geeignet.

Der Intel Core i7-7Y75 ist ein extrem sparsamer Dual-Core-SoC für Tablets und passiv gekühlte Notebooks, der auf der Kaby-Lake-Architektur basiert und Ende August 2016 vorgestellt wurde. Die CPU integriert 2 Prozessorkerne, die mit 1,3 bis 3,6 GHz takten (2-Kern-Turbo noch unbekannt). Dank Hyper-Threading kann der Prozessor vier Threads gleichzeitig bearbeiten. Weiterhin integriert der Chip eine Intel HD Graphics 615 Grafikkarte, einen Dual-Channel-Speichercontroller (DDR3L/LPDDR3) sowie VP9- und H.265-Videode- und -encoder. Die Fertigung erfolgt weiterhin in einem 14-Nanometer-Prozess mit FinFET-Transistoren.

Architektur

Im Vergleich mit Skylake hat Intel die zugrundeliegende Mikroarchitektur praktisch unverändert übernommen, sodass sich keine Unterschiede in der Pro-MHz-Leistung ergeben. Überarbeitet wurde lediglich die Speed-Shift-Technik zur schnelleren dynamischen Anpassung von Spannungen und Taktraten, zudem gestattet der gereifte 14-Nanometer-Prozess deutlich höhere Frequenzen und eine bessere Energieeffizienz als bislang.

Performance

Trotz anderslautender Serienbezeichnung handelt es sich beim Core i7-7Y75 um den Nachfolger des Core m7-6Y75 (Skylake Y-Serie), sodass der Chip aufgrund seiner sehr niedrigen TDP nicht das Leistungsniveau anderer Core-i-Prozessoren erreicht. Zwar kann der 7Y75 durch seinen hohen Turbo-Takt bei kurzzeitigen Lastspitzen und Single-Thread-Anwendungen gelegentlich mit Modellen der 15-Watt-Serie mithalten, wird bei Dauerbelastung jedoch merkliche Takt- und Leistungseinbrüche zeigen. Dennoch ist die CPU für viele anspruchsvollere Anwendungen sowie Multitasking geeignet.

Grafikeinheit

Die integrierte Intel HD Graphics 615 Grafikkarte verfügt wie die alte HD Graphics 515 über 24 Ausführungseinheiten (EUs) und taktet in diesem Fall mit 300 bis 1.050 MHz. Die Performance hängt stark von der eingestellten TDP sowie dem verwendeten Arbeitsspeicher ab; mit schnellem LPDDR3-1866 im Dual-Channel-Betrieb und angehobener Leistungsaufnahme dürfte die GPU gelegentlich an die Leistung der HD Graphics 520 herankommen, kann in anderen Fällen aber auch deutlich langsamer sein. Aktuelle Spiele des Jahres 2016 werden, wenn überhaupt, nur in niedrigsten Einstellungen flüssig dargestellt.

Anders als Skylake kann Kaby Lake nun auch H.265/HEVC im Main10-Profil mit 10 Bit Farbtiefe sowie Googles VP9-Codec in Hardware decodieren.

Leistungsaufnahme

Die Fertigung erfolgt in einem weiter verbesserten 14-Nanometer-Prozess mit FinFET-Transistoren, wodurch die Energieeffizienz nochmals spürbar gestiegen ist. Die TDP wird, typisch für die Y-Serie, standardmäßig mit 4,5 Watt spezifiziert und kann je nach Einsatzzweck nach oben oder unten variiert werden.

Der Intel Core i7-4578U ist ein sparsamer Dual-Core-Prozessor auf Basis der Haswell-Architektur, der für den Einsatz in großen Ultrabooks vorgesehen ist. Dank Hyperthreading können die 2 Kerne gleichzeitig bis zu 4 Threads bearbeiten. Die in 22 Nanometer gefertigte CPU taktet mit 3,0 GHz, kann per Turbo Boost aber Frequenzen von bis zu 3,5 GHz erreichen.

Performance

Die Performance des Core i7-4578U liegt entsprechend der gesteigerten Pro-MHz-Leistung noch über dem Niveau des Ivy-Bridge-basierten Core i7-3540M mit etwas höherer Taktrate. Unter Einsatz der neuen Befehlssätze wie AVX2 kann die Leistung aber auch noch deutlich besser ausfallen. Damit stehen nicht nur für Office- und Multimedia-Zwecke, sondern auch für anspruchsvolle Anwendungen ausreichende Reserven zur Verfügung.

Grafikeinheit

Für die Grafikausgabe zeigt sich die im Prozessor integrierte Intel Iris Graphics 5100 (40 EUs) verantwortlich, die mit 200 - 1200 MHz taktet. Diese verspricht ein deutliches Performanceplus gegenüber der HD Graphics 4000, was die Iris Graphics in Schlagdistanz zu dedizierten Grafikkarten der unteren Mittelklasse (z.B. GeForce GT 720M) bringt.

Leistungsaufnahme

Der Core i7-4578U liegt in der mit Haswell neu eingeführten TDP-Klasse von 28 Watt, die insbesondere für größere Ultrabooks mit leistungsstarker Kühlung konzipiert wurde.
