Wer das iPhone 7 Plus mochte, wird auch das iPhone 8 Plus gut finden. Es ist stärker, schneller und stabiler als der direkte Vorgänger, was schonmal ein sehr hohes Niveau verspricht. Das Display, auf dem Papier nicht sehr viel stärker, sieht im direkten Vergleich um Längen besser aus, was wohl auch an der True Tone Technologie liegt. Alle Apps und Programme starten schnell und sind sehr stabil.

Es handelt sich demnach um ein solides Update für das Vorjahres­modell, ohne allerdings wirklich spektakuläre neue Akzente zu setzen. Das Design wirkt ziemlich altbacken und der recht großzügige Rand um das Display ist aus heutiger Sicht einfach nur störend. Dafür können treue iPhone-Käufer große Teile des bisher genutzten Zubehörs weiter nutzen. Wer bereits ein iPhone 7 Plus sein Eigen nennt, braucht definitiv nicht umsteigen. Besitzer früherer iPhone-Modelle können den Wechsel aber durchaus in Betracht ziehen, das nötige Kleingeld voraus­gesetzt. It is worth the investment if you’re looking to jump from the 7, and is definitely worth the leap from iPhone 6 and 6s ranges. The main issue, and it’s the same one that raises its head every year, is that you have to switch to Android to get a better phone. If you’re willing to do so, the obvious competitor to the 8 Plus is the Galaxy Note 8. It comes with dual-cameras and a larger 6.3in AMOLED screen squeezed into a body that’s only slightly bigger than the iPhone 8 Plus, but comes at a small premium, costing around £820.

As I said, the one significant change here is the glass back. And this is needed to ensure the phone can make the best of wireless charging which Apple is ushering in with the iPhone 8 series. While Apple does not have a wireless charger of its own yet, I got to use the Belkin Boost Up wireless charging pad. Yes, it is quite convenient as you just need to place the phone on top for it to start charging — you need to be careful and keep it back in the middle for this to work. However, I found that wirelessly it takes a bit more time to charge that via the regular mode. Also, I am pretty sure you wont be carrying the wireless charger around in your office bag. This is meant to kept in one place: on your office table or chest of drawers and doesn’t really have mobile intentions.

Modell: Das iPhone 8 Plus könnte das Optimum in Apples neuer Phone-Produktlinie sein. Seine Dual-Kamera sorgt für bessere Augmented Reality Erfahrung wie das iPhone 8 und sein größerer Bildschirm bietet ein besseres Rampenlicht für anspruchsvolle Anwendungen, die durch den neuen A11 Prozessor angetrieben werden. Es ist deutlich billiger als das iPhone X. Das Apple iPhone 8 Plus nutzt abgesehen von der Glas-Rückseite das gleiche Design wie der Vorgänger. Dieses Merkmal ist mehr Notwendigkeit als Design, denn die neue Wireless-Charging-Option würde mit einer Rückseite aus Metall nicht funktionieren. Der Rest des Phones sieht und fühlt sich gleich an, obwohl es wegen der Glas-Rückseite etwas schwerer ist. Der Bildschirm ist besser, jedoch nicht radikal anders. Der A11 Bionic Prozessor verfügt über sechs Kerne, zwei davon sind "High-Performance"-, die anderen "Efficiency"-Kerne. Das sind mehr Kerne als beim A10 Vier-Kern- und beim A9 Zwei-Kern-SoC, doch die Sache mit den Kernen ist ein Ablenkungsmanöver. Es ist möglich einen schnellen Prozessor mit wenigen oder mit vielen Kernen herzustellen. Bionics ist die Wissenschaft der Kombination von biologischen und elektronischen Teilen und Methoden und bezieht sich hier auf die neue Neural Engine. Die Neural Engine ist eigener Block des A11, der für Machine-Learning reserviert ist. Beim iPhone 8 Plus macht er noch nicht viel, doch er trägt zur Szenen-Erkennung der Kamera-App bei. Allerdings umfasst iOS 11 eine API namens CoreML, die Third-Party-Developer bei der Integration von Machine-Learning in ihren eigenen Anwendungen unterstützt. Das iPhone 8 Plus verfügt über 3 GB RAM, um Multitasking zu bewältigen.

Das 8 Plus verfügt über ein Dual-Kamera-Setup mit zwei 12-MP-Kameras, eine normale mit f/1.8 Blende und ein 2x-Telephoto-Modell mit f/2.8. Außerdem steht eine 7-MP-Frontkamera mit f/2.2-Blende zur Verfügung, bei der es sich um das gleiche Modell wie im iPhone 7 Plus handelt. Zudem gibt es einen neuen Farbfilter, tiefere Pixel und optische Bildstabilisierung für Photos und Videos. Die neuen Kamera-Modi, die diese beiden Kameras nutzten, erfordern zusätzlichen Rechenaufwand. Lange 4K-Aufnahmen scheinen für dieses Phone gar kein Problem zu sein. Das iPhone 8 Plus ist in puncto Geschwindigkeit und Bildqualität der klare Sieger. Für Videos gibt es zwei neue Features. Das Phone kann nun 4K-Videos mit 60 FPS und Zweitlupenaufnahmen in 1080p-Auflösung mit 240 FPS aufzeichnen. Mit 24, 30 und 60 FPS Optionen für 4K-Videos übertrifft das iPhone 8 Plus seine Android-Konkurrenten (und ältere iPhones), indem es Videofilmern einige Viewing-Styles zur Verfügung stellt. Die Akkulaufzeit des iPhone 8 Plus ist gleich wie beim iPhone 7 Plus. In Anbetracht dessen, dass das neue Phone eine Menge neuer Merkmale, einen helleren Bildschirm und eine besser Kamera bietet ist das gut. Zudem unterstützt es Wireless-Charging mit den sehr beliebten Qi-kompatiblen Ladegeräten.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. A11 Bionic: System on a Chip (SoC) von Apple, der im iPhone 8 verbaut wird. Basiert auf sechs 64-Bit-fähige ARM-Kernen (2 Performance, 4 Stromsparkerne) und damit zwei mehr als der A10 Fusion im iPhone 7. Im Vergleich zum A10X sind jedoch auch alle 6 Kerne nutzbar.
